Destiny 2 Seals and Titles Explained: Legacy, Gilded, Rare

October 11, 2026·METAMMO Team

In Destiny 2, a seal is a set of Triumphs, and finishing it unlocks a title that shows under your name. Some titles can still be earned, some can be gilded each season for a permanent counter, and the Legacy ones can no longer be earned at all, which makes them the clearest proof of an account's history.

How seals and titles work

Destinypedia defines titles as cosmetic text displayed below a player's name. Each one is tied to a seal, a collection of Triumphs meant to represent the top end of an activity, season or destination. You track seals in the Triumphs menu, and once every Triumph in a seal is done you claim the title and can equip it.

Titles add no power, stats or loot. Their value is social and historical: a title tells other players, and anyone reviewing an account, exactly which content was cleared and roughly when. That is why serious buyers read the title list before the exotic count.

Players who complete a seal inside its time window, usually before the end of the season it launched in, could also buy a physical pin of it through the Bungie Rewards program. The pin is a separate real world purchase and does not change anything in game.

Gilding explained

Gilding arrived in Season of the Chosen. After earning a gildable title, you complete an extra set of Triumphs. The title turns gold for the rest of that season and a permanent symbol records how many times you have gilded it. Each title can be gilded once per season.

When the season ends the title returns to its normal purple, but the counter does not reset. A title gilded five times always shows that count.

Which titles can be gilded

  • Flawless from Trials of Osiris.
  • Conqueror, which since The Edge of Fate is tied to Conquest activities in the Portal instead of Grandmaster Nightfalls.
  • Glorious from the Crucible, which replaced Unbroken.
  • Dredgen from Gambit.
  • Iron Lord from Iron Banner and Deadeye from weapon Triumphs.

Event titles such as Flamekeeper (Solstice), Ghost Writer (Festival of the Lost) and Star Baker (The Dawning) work differently. They return with each run of the event, but gilding and unfinished progress reset after one year. Reveler, earned across all four events, resets annually as well.

The gold color only proves effort in the current season. The gild counter is the career number. When an account listing shows a gold Flawless, check the pip count beside it: a title gilded many times over several seasons says far more than one fresh gold screenshot.

Legacy titles that can no longer be earned

Destinypedia lists Legacy titles as titles that can no longer be obtained but can still be equipped. Most come from seasonal content that ended, plus the yearly Moments of Triumph events. Here is the full list by year.

YearLegacy titles
Year 2MMXIX, Shadow, Reckoner, Blacksmith, Wayfarer, Chronicler, Unbroken
Year 3MMXX, Forerunner, Almighty, Savior, Undying
Year 4MMXXI, Realmwalker, Splicer, Chosen, Warden
Year 5MMXXII, Seraph, Scallywag, Reaper, Risen
Year 6MMXXIII, Wish Bearer, Harsupex, Aquanaut, Queensguard, BRAVE, Godslayer
Year 7Intrepid, Slayer Baron, Heretic, MMXXIV, Legend, ETERNAL

The ones collectors talk about

  • Unbroken was the Crucible ranked title. It was sunset when Glorious replaced it in Season of the Seraph, and before that it already required progress across three seasons.
  • Godslayer came from The Pantheon in Year 6. Pantheon returned as a permanent activity with Monument of Triumph, but Destinypedia still lists Godslayer as Legacy.
  • Legend belonged to the 10th Anniversary, and ETERNAL to Rite of the Nine.
  • Blacksmith (Season of the Forge) and Reckoner (Season of the Drifter) date back to Year 2.

Rarity data changes as players log in and out, so we do not quote ownership percentages here. Treat any exact number in a listing as something to verify on a tracker, not a fact.

Titles you can still earn in October 2026

All raid titles remain active, from Rivensbane (Last Wish) and Enlightened (Garden of Salvation) through Fatebreaker, Descendant, Kingslayer, Disciple-Slayer, Dream Warrior, Swordbearer and Iconoclast (Salvation's Edge). Dungeon and destination titles such as Ghoul, Wrathbearer, Cursebreaker and Transcendent are also active.

Year 8 added Fated Weapon (Kepler), Atemporal (The Desert Perpetual raid), Renegade (The Lawless Frontier), Undertaker (Invasions) and Praxic (Equilibrium). Then Monument of Triumph, released on 9 June 2026 and billed as the final live service content update, added Immortal. It sits behind 17 Triumphs, 12 are needed for the title, and the rest gild it.

Will Legacy seals come back?

On 21 September 2026 Bungie said it plans to restore vaulted campaigns, destinations and raids for all players. No dates were given, and the announcement did not mention Triumphs, seals or titles. Until Bungie says otherwise, assume Legacy titles stay Legacy. Our guide to the Destiny 2 unvaulting covers what may change for account value.

How to read titles on an account you plan to buy

  1. Ask for the full Seals screen, including the Legacy section, not a single equipped title.
  2. Check gild counters on Flawless, Conqueror and Glorious.
  3. Match raid titles with clear history on a raid tracker.
  4. Check that the Bungie Name can still be changed and cross save is not locked.

Seals are only one part of value. Exotic count, Day One emblems and raid completions matter too, and our Destiny 2 account value guide explains how they combine. If you would rather skip the grind, browse Destiny 2 accounts with rare seals and titles.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a seal and a title in Destiny 2?

A seal is the collection of Triumphs. The title is the reward you claim when every Triumph in that seal is complete, and it displays under your name.

What does gilding a title do?

It turns the title gold for the rest of the season and adds a permanent counter showing how many times you have gilded it. Each title can be gilded once per season.

Can you still get Unbroken in Destiny 2?

No. Unbroken was sunset when Glorious replaced it in Season of the Seraph. It is now a Legacy title that can be equipped but not earned.

What is the last title in Destiny 2?

Immortal, added with Monument of Triumph on 9 June 2026. It needs 12 of 17 Triumphs, and finishing the remaining ones gilds it.

Do titles give any gameplay advantage?

No. Titles are purely cosmetic. Their value is as a record of completed content, which matters to other players and to anyone judging an account.
