The game
Behaviour Interactive’s four-against-one horror game: one killer hunts four survivors. Released on PC (Steam) on 14 June 2016, on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in June 2017 and on Switch in September 2019. The mobile version closed on 20 March 2025.

Ten years on
Behaviour reported up to 2 million daily players and over 70 million players in total at the 10th anniversary in June 2026. The wiki lists 44 killers and 54 survivors, 19 and 22 of them licensed.

This autumn
Chorus of Sin (25 August 2026) is the newest chapter. Haunted by Daylight, the Halloween event, runs from 13 October to 3 November 2026, and Behaviour has announced a Diablo collaboration for October and Terrifier for November.

Cross-progression
Since July 2024 progress can be synced across Steam, Epic, Windows Store, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch through a Behaviour Account. Syncing cannot be undone, and platform-exclusive cosmetics are not shared.

What sets a Dead by Daylight account’s price

Legacy Prestige
Bloody clothing granted for prestiging before Patch 1.3.0, with a cutoff of 24 November 2016. Behaviour says it does not intend to bring Legacy back. It is the reason old Dead by Daylight accounts sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars.

Legacy level and number of characters
Each prestige before the cutoff gave one Legacy piece, so L1, L2 and L3 mean one, two or three pieces. Nine characters had it: Dwight, Meg, Claudette, Jake, Nea, Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly and Nurse. A stack of L3 characters sits at the top of the market.

Proof that it was earned
Consoles launched after the cutoff, so earned Legacy lives on Steam accounts that played in 2016. Behaviour treats Legacy obtained after the cutoff as cheating, with a permanent ban.

Chapters no longer sold
Hellraiser (Pinhead) left the store on 4 April 2025 and Halloween (Michael Myers, Laurie) on 19 January 2026. Owners keep them, new players cannot buy them.

Prestige, perks and currencies
Characters at high Prestige (up to 100), all perks unlocked, and stored Bloodpoints, Iridescent Shards or Auric Cells save hundreds of hours. Useful, but all of it can still be earned.

Promo and event cosmetics
Platform and content-creator exclusives, convention and code items, and cosmetics from old Rift seasons add on top. Many of them are no longer handed out.

What is a Legacy account in Dead by Daylight?
An account with Legacy Prestige cosmetics: bloody clothing earned by prestiging a character before 24 November 2016, when Patch 1.3.0 changed the system. L1, L2 and L3 mean one, two or three Legacy pieces on that character. Behaviour has said it does not intend to bring Legacy back.
Which characters can have Legacy?
The nine characters in the game in 2016: survivors Dwight, Meg, Claudette, Jake and Nea, and killers Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly and Nurse.
Can a console account have Legacy?
Not earned on console: PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions launched in June 2017, after the November 2016 cutoff. Legacy on a console profile can only come from a Steam account synced through cross-progression.
Can I still buy the Hellraiser or Halloween chapter?
No. Hellraiser was removed from sale on 4 April 2025 and Halloween on 19 January 2026. Players who own them keep Pinhead, Michael Myers, Laurie and their perks, which is why accounts with them are listed separately.
Is it safe to buy a Dead by Daylight account?
Behaviour’s EULA makes the licence personal and non-transferable, and Steam’s agreement forbids selling an account, so any bought account carries a ban risk that no seller can remove. Behaviour also permanently bans unearned Legacy. What a seller can remove is the risk of the previous owner taking the account back: METAMMO accounts are checked by hand and carry a lifetime warranty against recovery (refund or replacement). Bans are not covered.
