A real Dead by Daylight Legacy account is a PC account that reached Prestige on an original character before 24 November 2016, and the only way to confirm one is to check the cosmetics, the account history and the playtime together. Legacy outfits will never be reissued, which is why they are the most valuable thing a Dead by Daylight account can hold.

What Legacy actually is
Legacy was a one time reward the developers created for players who had already put in the hours to Prestige their characters. Every Prestige reached before Patch 1.3.0 granted a piece of Legacy clothing. The window closed on 24 November 2016.
Characters released after the event never got Legacy, and neither did the licensed characters already in the game at the time, Laurie Strode and The Shape. That leaves nine characters, and nothing in the current Prestige system recreates those outfits.

L1, L2 and L3
Each Prestige level gave one item. L1 means one Legacy piece on that character, L2 means two, and L3 means the complete head, body and lower outfit. Sellers usually describe accounts this way, for example "L3 Claudette, L2 Trapper".
A full L3 set on several characters is the strongest version of a Legacy account, because each set needed three separate Prestiges on the 2016 progression system.
Why the platform tells you so much
Dead by Daylight launched on Windows on 14 June 2016. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions arrived in June 2017, Switch in September 2019, and the current generation consoles in November 2020. The Legacy deadline fell before every console release.
That means genuine Legacy was earned on the original PC version. A listing that describes Legacy earned on a console should get extra questions before anything else.
The account around the outfit matters as much as the outfit. A 2016 Legacy set on an account with a few hundred hours and a recent creation date is the pattern players have long flagged as suspicious, since earning Legacy in 2016 took serious grinding.
A five step Legacy check
- Video of every Legacy character. Ask for a live recording of the customisation screen for each character named in the listing, with each Legacy piece selected.
- Account age. Check the account page for its creation year and years of service. A Legacy account should date from 2016.
- Achievement dates. Dead by Daylight achievements unlocked in 2016 are a strong sign the owner was playing during the Legacy window.
- Hours played. Legacy accounts usually carry thousands of hours. Low playtime with multiple L3 sets does not add up.
- Restrictions. Look for game bans on the profile, including bans in other games, and make sure they are disclosed and priced in.

What else adds value
Legacy is the core, but other items add to an account:
- Prestige 100 characters under the current system, which show long playtime.
- Collaboration and limited cosmetics, such as earlier crossover outfits that are no longer in the store.
- Owned chapters and characters, which save the buyer money but are easy to purchase, so they count for less.
An account with every chapter and no Legacy is a convenience purchase. It is not a collector account.
Is now a good time to buy?
Dead by Daylight turned ten in 2026 and reports 70 million lifetime players. Haunted by Daylight 2026 runs from 13 October to 3 November, and October also brings a Diablo collection. Seasonal events bring returning players, but none of them can add Legacy to an account.

Frequently asked questions
Can you still get Legacy in Dead by Daylight?
No. Legacy Prestige cosmetics were only earnable before Patch 1.3.0, with a deadline of 24 November 2016, and the Dead by Daylight wiki states they will never be reissued.
Which characters have Legacy outfits?
Nine: survivors Dwight, Meg, Claudette, Jake and Nea, and killers The Trapper, The Wraith, The Hillbilly and The Nurse. Characters released later have none.
What does L3 mean on a Legacy account?
L3 means the character reached three Prestiges before the deadline and owns all three Legacy clothing pieces, the complete outfit. L1 and L2 mean one or two pieces.
Can a console account have real Legacy?
The consoles launched in June 2017, after the November 2016 deadline, so genuine Legacy began on PC. Treat console Legacy claims with extra caution.
How many hours should a Legacy account have?
There is no official number, but real Legacy owners played heavily in 2016. Thousands of hours and achievements dated 2016 are what you would expect to see.
