How teams qualified

Moonton says 22 National Olympic Committees entered regional qualification. The Southeast Asia qualifier ran 18 to 21 June 2026 at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore. Twelve teams reached the main stage:

  • Southeast Asia (5): Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia
  • West Asia (3): Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iran
  • Central Asia (2): Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan
  • East and South Asia (2): Mongolia, Hong Kong

Iran, which came through the last-chance qualifier, withdrew before the event, citing the conflict in the Middle East. That left 11 teams and one group of two.

The qualifiers alone set a record. Moonton and Esports Charts reported 10.1 million hours watched, the most of any esports event in Asian Games history, and a peak above 1.27 million concurrent viewers.

Myanmar was the fourth-placed team in its Southeast Asia qualifying group, behind the Philippines, Cambodia and Indonesia. It then dropped only one game in the entire main event, a single map to Cambodia in the quarterfinal. Qualifier seeding said almost nothing about who would win in Japan.

Format

  1. Group stage (29 September): four groups, single round robin, every match best of three. Top two in each group advanced; the bottom team was eliminated.
  2. Playoffs (30 September to 1 October): eight-team single-elimination bracket, best of three.
  3. Grand final (1 October): best of seven.

The two losing semifinalists both received bronze. There was no third-place match.

The Philippines exit

The Philippines fielded the Team Liquid PH core (Sanford, KarlTzy, Sanji, Teddyqt, Jaypee, coached by SN4P) and won its group without dropping a game. Indonesia then beat them 2-1 in the quarterfinal, ending the run of the region most fans picked to win.

Mongolia's breakthrough

Mongolia beat Cambodia and Hong Kong without losing a game to reach the semifinals and a bronze medal, the biggest result of the event for a team outside Southeast Asia.

Myanmar's gold medal roster

Myanmar's lineup came from Yangon Galacticos:

  • Hein Htet Oo (Ying), EXP lane
  • Han Htoo Swe (Hannn), jungle
  • Myo Myint Ko Ko Kyaw (Kaize), mid lane
  • Shine Lin Aung (Sanji), gold lane
  • Kyaw Thuya (Blink), roam
  • Aung Min Htun (M God), coach

Two Myanmar players earned the organisers' Star of the Day award: Shine Lin Aung on day two and Kyaw Thuya on finals day. Malaysia's Danial (CikuGais) took it on day one. Moonton noted it was Myanmar's second gold medal of the whole Games.

"Myanmar's victory is a historic moment for MLBB and for mobile esports in Asia," said Ray Ng, Head of Esports Ecosystem at Moonton.
