These five champions come up constantly because every account meets them early and gear is scarce. The question is never whether they are good in the abstract, it is which one deserves your first decent set of gear. Here is what each actually does.
At a glance
| Champion | Rarity | Affinity | Role | Built for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coldheart | Rare | Void | Attack | Fire Knight, Dark Fae, single-target control |
| Royal Guard | Rare | Magic | Attack | Spider waves, Dark Fae speed farming |
| Scyl of the Drakes | Legendary | Force | Support | Survivability everywhere early |
| Whisper | Epic | Void | Attack | Single-target damage, crypts, Doom Tower |
| Seer | Epic | Void | Support | Buff control and team crit |
Coldheart
A Rare that outlives most Legendaries. Her damage scales off the enemy's maximum health rather than her own attack, which is why she works against bosses that ordinary damage cannot dent. She also brings turn meter reduction and heal reduction in the same kit.
Strongest in Fire Knight, Dark Fae and similar encounters where max-HP damage, turn meter control and heal reduction are all wanted at once. If you need one Void champion that gives consistent single-target control, she is the pick.
Royal Guard
The area-of-effect answer to the same problem. He hits all enemies for a portion of their maximum health and brings Decrease SPD, Decrease DEF and turn meter control, which is an unusual amount of utility for a Rare.
That combination makes him one of the best speed-farm options for Dark Fae and a reliable way through early Spider stages, where waves of enemies matter more than one target.
Scyl of the Drakes
The Legendary every account is guaranteed, which is why she appears in so many searches. AoE stun, healing and a revive in one champion, plus her own turn meter reduction and a speed debuff.
She is not the highest ceiling in the game and does not need to be. She keeps an under-geared team alive through content it should not survive, and that is worth more early than any damage dealer.
Whisper
An Epic from the Knight Revenant faction and one of the faction's best single-target damage dealers. Her first skill has a 50% chance to place a 25% Weaken for two turns; her second buffs her own attack and critical rate when the target has more maximum health than she does, and ignores defence entirely against a Weakened target.
That conditional is the whole champion: she is built to kill things much larger than herself, which is why she shows up in crypts and Doom Tower rather than in wave clear.
Seer
An Epic Support from the Orcs faction, and the most situational of the five. Her second skill puts a 30% Increase C.RATE on the whole team and a 25% Weaken on every enemy. Her third strips all buffs from allies and enemies alike, then hits everything, with damage scaling to how many buffs were removed.
Stripping your own team's buffs is a real cost, so Seer belongs in compositions built around her rather than dropped into an existing one.
Which to gear first
If you are choosing one, the order that holds for most accounts:
- Scyl, because survival gates everything early and you already have her.
- Coldheart, because she unlocks specific dungeons nothing else in your roster can.
- Royal Guard, if you are stuck on waves rather than bosses.
- Whisper, once you have gear to spare and content that needs a single big hit.
- Seer, last, and only if you are building around what she does.
Gear is the constraint, not champions. An unbuilt Legendary loses to a geared Rare in every fight that matters.
Frequently asked questions
Is Coldheart still worth building in Raid: Shadow Legends?
Yes. Her damage scales off enemy maximum health rather than her own attack, so she stays relevant against bosses long after ordinary damage dealers stop working. She also carries turn meter and heal reduction in the same kit.
Coldheart or Royal Guard — which is better?
They solve different problems. Coldheart is single-target control for bosses like Fire Knight; Royal Guard hits all enemies for max-HP damage with Decrease SPD and Decrease DEF, which suits waves and speed farming. Most accounts end up using both.
Is Scyl of the Drakes good?
Early, yes, and every account is guaranteed her. AoE stun, healing and a revive keep an under-geared team alive through content it should not clear, which matters more at the start than raw damage.
What is Whisper used for in Raid?
Single-target damage. Her kit rewards attacking targets with more maximum health than she has, and ignores defence against Weakened enemies, so she is used in crypts and Doom Tower rather than for clearing waves.
Is Seer worth using?
Only in a team built for her. She grants team-wide critical rate and applies Weaken, but her third skill strips buffs from your own champions as well as the enemy, which makes her awkward alongside a buff-heavy composition.
