Short answer: buy a Destiny 2 account either on an escrow marketplace (G2G, Eldorado, GameBoost, U7BUY or PlayerAuctions), where the platform holds your payment until delivery, or from a direct seller with a written warranty against recovery, such as METAMMO. The biggest risk is the original owner taking back one of the platform accounts the Destiny profile is linked to. Take over every linked platform account and its email, check how Cross Save is set up, and pick cover that lasts longer than a couple of weeks.

Why recovery is the main risk with Destiny 2
A Destiny 2 account is a Bungie.net profile that you sign in to through linked platform accounts: Steam, PlayStation, Xbox or Epic Games. The characters themselves live on those platform accounts, and Cross Save lets one set of characters be played across them. So the real handover is the platform accounts and their emails. An original owner who keeps any of them, or who can prove ownership to Steam, Sony, Microsoft or Epic, can take back the characters, and that can happen long after a short warranty has ended.
Bungie's own rules show the risk is real. Its Cross Save guide says that after Cross Save is turned off there is a 90-day wait before it can be turned on again, with no exceptions, and that the rule exists to discourage activity such as account recoveries by other players. Bungie's Limited Software License Agreement also says that, unless Bungie permits it, you may not "sell, lend, rent, trade, or otherwise transfer any Live Content". No seller can remove the risk of action by Bungie.
Where Destiny 2 stands in 2026
Bungie released the final live-service content update, Monument of Triumph, on 9 June 2026, and says Destiny 2 will remain playable, as the original Destiny is today. That changes what an account is worth to you: there is no new season to catch up on, so you are buying an existing collection. Sunsetting is not a worry for weapons and armour, because Bungie dropped infusion caps in 2021. What still matters is that older campaigns were removed through the Destiny Content Vault, so exotics, seals and ornaments tied to that content can only come with an account that earned them.

All five marketplaces hold the payment until delivery, which protects you against a seller who never hands over the logins. Their cover then runs for a fixed period. A recovery through one of the platform accounts can come later than that, which is why METAMMO's warranty against recovery has no end date.
What to check before paying
- Every linked platform account. Ask which of Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and Epic are linked to the Bungie.net profile, and which come with the sale with their emails. A platform account the seller keeps is a way back in.
- Cross Save status. Ask whether Cross Save is on and which platform holds the characters. Changing it later can trigger the 90-day wait, and Silver bought on the account blocks turning Cross Save off for 90 days after the purchase.
- Whether you can play on your platform. If you play on a console, make sure that console's account comes with the sale or that the characters can be reached from it.
- Collections, with screenshots. Ask for screenshots of exotics, seals and triumphs from the game or Bungie.net, with the Bungie Name visible, matching the listing item by item.
- Raid and dungeon history. Day-one clears and solo flawless runs cannot be repeated. Check them on a public raid or dungeon report rather than trusting the title.
- Expansions owned. Confirm which expansions are on the account, since content you do not own cannot be played.
- Who created the accounts. Ask whether the seller is the original owner. A reseller cannot stop the first owner from contacting a platform's support.
Red flags
- A seller who hands over Bungie.net access but keeps the Steam, PlayStation or Xbox account.
- No clear answer on which platform holds the characters under Cross Save.
- Collection screenshots without the Bungie Name, or a seal list typed into the title.
- A request to pay outside the marketplace to save fees.
- A promise that the account cannot be banned.
