Doctrine

A Support whose kit drains life is a different shape from Overwatch's existing healers: sustain generated from damage dealt rather than from a resource you manage. Blizzard has not published the full ability list, so how strong that is in practice is not yet knowable.

New Supports change the game more than new DPS heroes do — the role is the smallest pool and the one that most determines how a match plays out.

Watchpoint: Grimsvöln

A new map named in the Watchpoint tradition. No mode or layout details have been published.

The animated trailer

Blizzard showed an animated short built around Doomfist, Reaper, Widowmaker and Sombra assaulting a prison — Talon's roster, in other words. Overwatch's animated shorts have historically preceded story content, though nothing has been announced.

What carries value on an Overwatch account

Overwatch's economy is unusual: competitive rank resets, but cosmetics do not, and several categories cannot be obtained again at any price.

  • Retired event cosmetics. Skins from closed events and original Overwatch loot boxes cannot be earned now. This is where the value sits.
  • Golden weapons. Bought with competitive points earned over seasons, so they represent time rather than money.
  • Competitive rank. Resets each season, so it tells you what the account can do, not what it is worth.
  • Battle pass history. Past-season passes cannot be completed retroactively.
  • Account standing and platform linking. Both travel with the account and both are worth checking before paying.

The practical rule: buy for what cannot be re-earned. Rank comes back with play; a 2017 event skin does not come back at all.
