What "Alpha vs Omega" means in Valorant

The factions come from Valorant's story. The game's lore splits reality into two Earths: Alpha Earth, home of the agents you play, and Omega Earth, its mirror. Riot framed the first faction event as a choice between defending Alpha Earth or fighting for Omega's survival.

That first edition, the Alpha vs Omega Conflict, opened Act 1 of 2026. It ran from 7 January to 3 February, drew 2,679,520 participants, and scored each week on one theme: Bandit kills, wins in the All Random One Site mode, assists, then Competitive performance. Faction points reset every week.

Frag or Die is the second edition. It keeps the two factions but swaps the weekly reset for one running total across five weeks, and ties the event to Champions Shanghai through Pick'Ems missions and VCT team bonuses.

How to join Alpha vs Omega

  1. Go to Riot's FTW event page for Champions Conflict: Frag or Die on ftw.riotgames.com.
  2. Sign in with your Riot account. This registers you on the FTW platform automatically.
  3. Pick Alpha or Omega. Your choice decides which faction card you receive.
  4. If the page asks for a VCT team, pick one: every Champions win by your chosen team adds 1,000 points.
  5. Play VALORANT normally. Progress tracks from your matches.

In the January event, factions were locked for the full four weeks. Riot's Frag or Die page does not say whether switching is allowed this time, so assume your first choice is final.

Regional restrictions apply. Riot points players to the challenge rules on the FTW site for the full list of excluded countries.

How faction points work

SourcePoints
Each limited (weekly) mission completed5,000
Wins20 per minute of the match
Kills15 each
Assists10 each
Playing with friends5 per minute
Your VCT team wins at Champions1,000 per win
Milestone: 9 limited missions20,000 bonus
Milestone: 18 limited missions20,000 bonus

The faction total is not a raw sum. Riot calculates it by taking each faction's average points per player and multiplying it by the participant count of the larger faction. On 9 October, Alpha averaged 71,038 points per player and Omega 70,408.

Because both sides are scaled to the larger faction's headcount, recruiting more players does nothing for your side. Only the average counts, so a faction of fewer, more active players can beat a bigger but lazier one.

Weekly missions, week by week

Limited missions rotate in each week. Here is the full list as recorded on the official VALORANT Wiki:

Week (start)Limited missions
1 (16 Sep)Complete Pick'Ems; 20 kills in Deathmatch or Team Deathmatch; play 35 rounds in Competitive, Unrated or Swiftplay
2 (23 Sep)3 games on a single agent; earn 500 performance score; play 5 games
3 (30 Sep)Complete playoff Pick'Ems; play 5 Gauntlet: Glitched games; place top 4 in Gauntlet
4 (6 Oct)30 kills; 10 kills with the Warden; deal 2,500 damage
5 (13 Oct)10 DM or TDM kills; 500 performance score; 3 games on one agent; 10 Warden kills; 1 Gauntlet game; top 4 in Gauntlet; 2,500 damage; win 3 games

Week 4 is live now. The Warden is the new automatic rifle from Patch 13.06: 2,900 credits, 18-round magazine, flat 50 body damage at every range, and a built-in 2x scope. Gauntlet: Glitched, from the same patch (released 22 September), puts eight duos in a 16-player mode where each team drafts abilities to build its own hybrid Robo-Agent.

That adds up to 20 limited missions across the event. The spray milestone needs 18, so you can miss only two. Week 5 has eight missions, which makes it the catch-up week if you skipped earlier ones (only if past missions do not expire, which Riot has not confirmed).

Who is winning, Alpha or Omega?

On 9 October, Alpha led with roughly 102.0 billion points to Omega's 101.1 billion, a gap of about 905 million. That is less than 1% of either total, and the Champions playoffs still have nine days to run, each VCT team win adding 1,000 points per supporter. The result is genuinely open.

Frequently asked questions

When does Valorant Alpha vs Omega end?

Champions Conflict: Frag or Die ends on 20 October 2026 at 11:59 PM PT, two days after the Champions Shanghai grand final.

Can I switch from Alpha to Omega?

In January's Alpha vs Omega event the faction was locked for the whole event. Riot has not said switching is allowed in Frag or Die, so treat your first pick as permanent.

Do I have to play a set number of games?

Yes. You must play at least three games per weekly challenge to appear on the scoreboard and qualify for rewards.

Is it too late to join?

No. You can still join until 20 October, earn your faction card, and complete the week 4 and week 5 missions for points and the 9-mission title.

Which faction should I pick?

Pick the card you like: Alpha gives a Sage card, Omega a Viper card. Faction size does not matter because Riot scores each side by its average points per player.
