Warframe Mastery Rank Explained: How Long to MR30 and LR6

October 11, 2026·METAMMO Team

Reaching Mastery Rank 30 in Warframe takes 2,250,000 mastery points, which is roughly 70% of all the mastery the game offered at the Update 42.0 count. There is no fixed number of hours: you get there by ranking hundreds of Warframes and weapons to 30 and passing one test per rank, and the Legendary ranks after that ask for almost everything in the game.

How mastery points work

Mastery Rank tracks how much of the game you have experienced. You earn points by leveling equipment with affinity, clearing Star Chart nodes for the first time, beating Junction specters and ranking Railjack and Drifter Intrinsics. Points come once per item, so selling a rank 30 weapon and rebuilding it gives nothing.

  • Weapons, Kitgun chambers, Zaw strikes, Amp prisms: 100 points per rank, 3,000 at rank 30.
  • Warframes, companions, Archwings, K-Drives, Necramechs: 200 points per rank, 6,000 at rank 30.
  • Kuva, Tenet and Coda weapons, Paracesis, Necramechs: can go to rank 40 with five Forma, for 4,000 (weapons) or 8,000 (Necramechs).
  • Junctions: 1,000 points for the first win, and again for the first win in The Steel Path.
  • Intrinsics: 1,500 points per rank for Railjack and Drifter.

Variants count as separate items. Braton, MK1-Braton, Braton Vandal and Braton Prime each give their own 3,000, which is why collecting every Prime and Wraith version matters so much at high rank.

How long does it take to reach MR30?

Digital Extremes does not publish an hours figure, and player reports vary too much to quote one honestly. The cleaner way to measure it is in items. MR30 equals 2,250,000 points, the same as ranking every one of the 119 Warframes counted at Update 42.0 (714,000) plus about 512 weapons at 3,000 each.

That count also explains why the climb feels slow late. Early ranks need 2,500, 7,500 and 12,500 points; the jump from MR29 to MR30 alone needs 147,500, which is about 49 weapons. Each new rank costs 5,000 more than the one before, up to MR30.

The test limit

Points are not enough. You must pass a solo test for every rank. Since Update 38.0 (December 2024) a failed attempt has no cooldown, but after a pass you wait 23 hours before the next test. So even an account with every point already earned needs 29 cooldowns of 23 hours between the MR1 and MR30 tests, close to four weeks.

Legendary ranks: MR31 to MR36

Every rank after 30 is a Legendary Rank, and each one costs a flat 147,500 points. Listings often write them as MR31 to MR36, so "MR36" and "Legendary 6" are the same thing. The Legendary 6 test arrived in Update 41.0 on 10 December 2025, and no Legendary 7 test exists yet.

Each Legendary rank adds one loadout slot, a Legendary Core and one point of base mod capacity on items that can rank above 30. Legendary 1 also opens the Iceblade atop Yuvan Peak.

Pool counted at Update 42.0MasteryHighest rank it reaches
All items and nodes, including limited ones3,225,138Legendary 6, 57,362 short of Legendary 7
Everything except limited items2,799,138Legendary 3, 40,862 short of Legendary 4
The wiki's own totals show that ordinary farming stops at Legendary 3. Every rank from Legendary 4 up depends on limited items: Primes out of rotation, event weapons, Baro Ki'Teer stock and Wraith or Vandal drops. An LR5 or LR6 profile is therefore proof of years of timed events, not just long hours.

Founders gear is part of that limited pool, but it is small. Excalibur Prime, Lato Prime and Skana Prime add 12,000 together, so Legendary 6 is reachable without them; the margin above the LR6 line is about 90,000 points.

What MR actually unlocks

Mastery Rank does not change combat stats. What it changes is access and daily limits.

  • Daily caps: Syndicate standing rises by 500 per rank from 16,000 at MR0; Focus from lenses by 5,000 from 250,000; the Void Trace cap by 50 from 100.
  • Trading: opens at MR2, with daily trades equal to your rank. Legendary Arcane trading opens at MR11.
  • Content: Sorties, Kuva Liches and Sisters at MR5; Rivens and Helminth access at MR8; almost all market and clan weapons by MR15.
  • Loadouts: one extra slot every even rank up to 30, then 15 more at MR30 and one per Legendary rank.

Reading MR on an account you plan to buy

MR is the quickest honest number on a Warframe account because it is shown on the profile and has to be earned test by test. Use it as a starting point, not the full picture.

  1. Ask for the profile screen with the Mastery breakdown, which splits points into Warframes, weapons, companions, Star Chart and Intrinsics.
  2. Match MR to the arsenal. A high rank with few Primes in the foundry and inventory screenshots is a mismatch worth questioning.
  3. Check Steel Path progress, since its nodes and Junctions give a separate 27,569 points and show endgame play.
  4. Confirm the platform and login. Cross Platform Save linking is permanent, so know which account is primary and whether a Steam account is still attached.

For the wider checklist on Primes, Helminth, arcanes and collector items, see our guide on what makes a Warframe account valuable. If you would rather skip the grind, you can browse high MR Warframe accounts with the rank stated in each listing.

Frequently asked questions

How many mastery points do I need for MR30?

You need 2,250,000 points in total. The formula up to MR30 is 2,500 multiplied by the rank squared, so MR30 is 2,500 × 900.

What is the highest Mastery Rank in Warframe?

Legendary 6, often listed as MR36, is the highest test available. It needs 3,135,000 points and arrived in Update 41.0 in December 2025.

Is there a cooldown after failing a Mastery Rank test?

No. Since Update 38.0 you can retry a failed test right away. After a successful test you wait 23 hours before the next rank.

Does Mastery Rank make you stronger?

Not directly. It raises base mod capacity slightly and unlocks gear, trades, Rivens and higher daily caps, but it adds no damage or health by itself.

Do I need Founders items for Legendary 6?

No. Founders gear is worth 12,000 points in total, and the full mastery pool counted at Update 42.0 clears Legendary 6 by about 90,000 points.
