You get LD5 monsters in Summoners War only by summoning with Light & Darkness Scrolls or 50 Light & Dark Summoning Pieces, and each summon has about a 0.35% chance to give a natural 5-star. That is roughly 1 in 286 scrolls on average, so most players own far fewer LD5s than they expect, which is exactly why the LD5 count sets an account's value.
Key facts: LD5 and LD scroll rates
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| What LD5 means | A natural 5-star monster of the Light or Dark attribute |
| Only summon sources | Scroll of Light & Darkness and Light & Dark Summoning Pieces (50 pieces = 1 summon) |
| Nat 5 rate per LD summon | 0.35% (community data from SWARFARM summon logs) |
| Mana cost per summon | 10,000 Mana Stones on top of the scroll |
| Fixed LD5 outside scrolls | Fusion nat 5s: Veromos (Dark Ifrit) and Jeanne (Light Paladin) |
| Pity system for LD scrolls | None that we could find in Com2uS notices |
One caveat on the numbers: the figures players quote come from SWARFARM's crowd-sourced summon logs, last summarized on the community wiki in January 2018. We could not find a newer official breakdown, so treat 0.35% as a long-run average, not a promise.

LD scroll rates and what they mean in practice
| Scroll | 3-star | 4-star | 5-star | Can give Light/Dark? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scroll of Light & Darkness | 93.65% | 6.00% | 0.35% | Yes, only Light/Dark |
| Mystical Scroll | 91.5% | 8.0% | 0.5% | No |
| Legendary Scroll | 0% | 93.5% | 6.5% | No |
| Transcendence Scroll | 0% | 0% | 100% | No |
The LD scroll is also the only scroll where awakened pulls show up about 2% of the time, but an awakened 3-star is still a natural 3-star. It does not raise the monster's grade for collection or account purposes.
How many LD scrolls for one LD5
Every summon is independent, so the odds of at least one LD5 follow a simple curve. The numbers below use the 0.35% rate.
| LD summons | Chance of at least one LD5 |
|---|---|
| 50 | 16.1% |
| 100 | 29.6% |
| 200 | 50.4% |
| 286 (the average) | 63.3% |
| 500 | 82.7% |
| 1,000 | 97.0% |
Saving scrolls does not improve your odds. A pile of 200 LD scrolls opened in one night gives exactly the same 50.4% chance as 200 opened one a week. The only thing saving changes is that you can open them on a day an event adds bonus rewards.
Every way to get LD scrolls and pieces in 2026
None of these sources is fast. The value is that they add up over months, which is why long-played accounts end up with more LD5s than new ones.
- Trial of Ascension: clearing floor 90 gives one Scroll of Light & Darkness on Normal and one on Hard.
- First clears and achievements: Faimon Volcano on Normal, plus the B10 achievements for Giant's Keep, Dragon's Lair and Necropolis and Rift Raid level 5.
- World Boss: LD scrolls drop from C grade chests and above; LD pieces can drop from any chest grade.
- Siege Battle: trophy boxes can contain LD scrolls or pieces, with better boxes for higher placement.
- Tartarus' Labyrinth: the v9.3.0 update (28 August 2026) raised the number of reward boxes from Immemorial Heritage and the amount of Light & Dark Summoning Pieces in them, starting with the run that began 5 September.
- Magic Shop: rotating offers of 5 LD pieces for 135,000 to 160,000 Mana, according to the community wiki.
- Events: Com2uS runs event rewards with LD scrolls; the Moon Piece team event that ended 4 October 2026 gave one Light & Darkness Scroll for 40 collected pieces.
What does not give LD5
Big nat 5 events look tempting but skip Light and Dark. The current SWC2026 Nat 5 Monster Summon Event (11 October to 15 November 2026) lets you summon up to 23 default 5-star monsters and keep one, but the list is Fire, Water and Wind only. Mystical, Legendary and Transcendence scrolls also exclude Light and Dark.

Which LD5 monsters actually matter
Pulling an LD5 is luck; pulling the right one is more luck. Value comes from monsters that see play in RTA and Siege. In World Arena Season 38, SWLens counted three LD5s among the ten most banned monsters.
| LD5 | Attribute | Season 38 RTA ban rate |
|---|---|---|
| Beelzebub | Dark | 41.2% |
| Douman | Dark | 41.1% |
| Seimei | Light | 34.7% |
Season 39 runs from 5 October to 19 December 2026 after the v9.3.4 skill balance patch, so these rates can shift during the season. Our Summoners War RTA meta page tracks the latest picks and bans.
Collab LD5s are a special case. Collab versions can only be summoned while the collab runs, and Com2uS later adds an original monster with the same kit. Our collab monsters list with original twins covers every pair.
Why LD5 count drives account prices
Because LD5s cannot be farmed, the count is the shorthand every seller leads with. Our Summoners War account price index shows the median listing climbing with every LD5 band.
| LD5 on the account | Median listing price (90 days to 11 October 2026) |
|---|---|
| 0 to 1 | $23 |
| 4 to 6 | $102 |
| 7 to 9 | $272 |
| 10 to 14 | $672 |
| 15 or more | $1,995 |
Put that next to the odds. Ten LD5s at 0.35% means roughly 2,860 LD summons on average, which is years of Trial of Ascension, World Boss and Siege rewards. That gap between time and money is why many players choose to buy a Summoners War account with LD5 monsters instead of waiting on scrolls.

What to check on an LD5 account
- Names, not just the number: ask for a monster box screenshot filtered to 5-star Light and Dark.
- Runes: an LD5 without speed runes still needs months of work.
- Server: accounts are tied to Global, Europe or Asia; pick where you will play.
- Hive email: you must control the email bound to the Hive account, or the old owner can recover it.

Frequently asked questions
What is the LD5 rate in Summoners War?
About 0.35% per Light & Darkness summon, based on SWARFARM community logs. The rest is 6.00% for 4-star and 93.65% for 3-star monsters. That averages one LD5 in roughly 286 summons.
Can Mystical or Legendary scrolls give an LD5?
No. Mystical, Legendary and Transcendence scrolls exclude Light and Dark monsters, as do Fire, Water and Wind event summons. Only LD scrolls and LD summoning pieces can roll a Light or Dark monster.
How many LD pieces make one summon?
Fifty Light & Dark Summoning Pieces equal one Scroll of Light & Darkness, with the same rates. Pieces come from the Magic Shop, World Boss, Siege boxes and Tartarus' Labyrinth.
Is there a pity system for LD scrolls?
No pity or guaranteed LD5 counter has been announced for Light & Darkness scrolls. Each summon is independent, so a long dry streak does not raise the next roll's odds.
Is there a guaranteed LD5 anywhere?
The fusion nat 5s, Veromos (Dark) and Jeanne (Light), are crafted from set monsters rather than rolled. Any other LD5 depends on scroll luck.
