Where to Buy a WoW Classic Account Safely in 2026: TBC Anniversary, Hardcore and Era

Short answer: buy a WoW Classic account either on an escrow marketplace (G2G, Eldorado, GameBoost, U7BUY or PlayerAuctions), where the platform holds your payment until delivery, or from a direct seller with a written warranty against recovery, such as METAMMO. What you are buying is the whole Battle.net account, not a character, and the biggest risk is the original owner taking that Battle.net account back through Blizzard support after the sale. Take over the email and the authenticator, and check that the character is on the realm and version you actually want to play.

Marketplace terms below come from each platform's own help pages, checked 6 October 2026. This guide was updated on 9 October 2026.

Battle.net account, not a character

Classic characters sit on a Battle.net account that can also hold retail World of Warcraft and other Blizzard games. A seller cannot hand over a character on its own; you receive the Battle.net login, and with it everything on the account. Ask what else is on it.

That is also where the risk sits. Whoever controls the Battle.net email and authenticator can reset the password, and an original owner with the account's details or payment records can go to Blizzard support. Blizzard's End User License Agreement says you may not purchase, sell, gift or trade any account, and that an attempt may lead to forfeiture of the account. No seller can remove that risk.

Which version: TBC Anniversary, Hardcore or Era

"Classic" now means several games on one launcher. Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary went live in February 2026 and Black Temple opened in August 2026. Anniversary Hardcore characters stay on their realm or move to Classic Era; they do not become TBC characters. Characters cannot be moved between regions such as Europe and North America (Blizzard's transfer restrictions). Our realm guide lists the region, ruleset and version of every realm.

Platform-wide account terms from each platform's own help pages, checked 6 October 2026. Which marketplaces carry WoW Classic listings on a given day varies; these terms apply to any account bought there. Dispute handling, seller ID checks and support channels are compared in our marketplace comparison.

All five marketplaces hold the payment until delivery, which is real protection against a seller who never hands over the login. Their cover then runs for a fixed period. Battle.net recoveries can come much later than that, which is why METAMMO's warranty against recovery has no end date.

What to check before paying

  1. The Battle.net email. You must end up controlling the email bound to the account. Without it the previous owner can reset the password.
  2. The authenticator. If one is attached, it has to come off the previous owner's phone and onto yours. Otherwise they keep a way in.
  3. Region, realm, faction and version. Confirm the realm name and that it is the version you want: TBC Anniversary, Anniversary Hardcore or Classic Era.
  4. The character sheet, not a gear score. Gear score is an addon estimate written into titles by sellers. Ask for in-game screenshots of the character sheet, bags and any named items the listing mentions.
  5. Attunements and riding. In TBC Anniversary attunements are account-wide, so ask which raids are unlocked. Check flying riding on level 70 characters.
  6. Game time. TBC Anniversary is included with a subscription or game time, so the account needs active game time to log in.
  7. Who opened the account. Ask whether the seller is the original owner. A reseller cannot stop the first owner from contacting Blizzard.

Red flags

  • A seller offering to "transfer the character" to your own Battle.net account.
  • No authenticator handover, or an email the seller wants to keep.
  • A gear score in the title with no character sheet screenshots.
  • A Hardcore character sold as if it could be played on a TBC realm.
  • A request to pay outside the marketplace, or a promise that the account cannot be banned.

How METAMMO handles WoW Classic accounts

METAMMO is a direct seller: we sell our own stock instead of hosting other sellers. Every WoW Classic account is checked by hand before it is listed. Our warranty is lifetime and covers one thing: if a previous owner ever takes the account back, you get a full refund or a replacement, and confirmed claims are settled within 48 hours. Publisher bans are not covered, because no seller controls them.

If you are not sure which account fits you, tell us on Discord or by email what you want to play and we help you choose. Delivery is usually within minutes to a few hours, at most 24, and you can cancel for a full refund at any time before delivery. What you give up compared with a marketplace is third-party escrow, so check our public record on G2G, Eldorado and GameBoost first.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the safest place to buy a WoW Classic account?

A seller who covers both a failed delivery and a later recovery. Marketplaces give escrow and a fixed cover period; METAMMO, a direct seller, gives a lifetime warranty against recovery by a previous owner. In both cases take over the Battle.net email and authenticator.

Can I buy just a WoW Classic character?

Not in a normal sale. Characters live on a Battle.net account, and what changes hands is that account with everything on it.

Can a Hardcore character be moved to TBC Anniversary?

No. Anniversary Hardcore characters stay on their realm or move to Classic Era; they do not become TBC characters. Characters also cannot be moved between Europe and North America.

Does a Classic account need a subscription?

Yes. Blizzard states that TBC Anniversary is included with a World of Warcraft subscription or game time.

Is buying a WoW Classic account against Blizzard's rules?

Yes. Blizzard's End User License Agreement forbids buying or selling accounts and says it may lead to forfeiture. A warranty protects your money against recovery; it cannot stop Blizzard acting, and METAMMO's warranty does not cover bans.
