Buying a WoW Classic account

A Classic account is only yours if you control its Battle.net email and authenticator, and it is only worth what is on the right realm and version. Here is what to check before paying and what Blizzard’s terms mean for a buyer.

Checklist

9 things to check

  1. 1

You get the whole Battle.net account

Classic characters live on a Battle.net account that can also hold retail WoW and other Blizzard games. Make sure you receive the Battle.net login itself, and ask what else is on it.

  2. 2

    The Battle.net email

You must end up controlling the email bound to the account. Without it, the previous owner can reset the password and take the account back.

  3. 3

    The authenticator

If an authenticator is attached, it has to come off the previous owner’s phone and onto yours after purchase; otherwise they keep a way in.

  4. 4

Region, realm, faction — and version

Characters cannot be moved between regions, and a Hardcore character cannot simply be moved to a TBC realm. Check that the realm is the version you want: Spineshatter or Nightslayer for TBC Anniversary, Soulseeker or Doomhowl for Anniversary Hardcore, Firemaw or Whitemane for Classic Era.

  5. 5

    Gear score — with screenshots

Gear score is an addon’s estimate, and titles in listings are written by sellers. Ask for in-game screenshots of the character sheet and bags, and of the tier pieces or named items (Dragonspine Trophy, Tier 5, Tier 6) the listing mentions.

  6. 6

    Attunements

In TBC Anniversary attunements are account-wide: one attuned character unlocks the raid for every character on the account. Ask which raids are unlocked (Karazhan, Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, Hyjal, Black Temple).

Attunements will be account-wide in TBC Classic Anniversary Edition (Warcraft Tavern) (community)

  7. 7

    Flying, professions and gold

Expert riding (60% flying) and Artisan riding (280% epic flying) are learned at level 70 and cost gold to train, so an account that has them is ready to play. Professions cap at 375. Gold on the character should be visible in a screenshot.

  8. 8

    Game time and boosts

Classic needs active game time to log in. Some accounts carry a purchased Level 58 Character Boost or the Outland Epic Pack (which includes a boost and 30 days of game time); a boost works only on Anniversary realms and on the account that bought it.

  9. 9

    Blizzard’s terms

Blizzard’s End User License Agreement says you may not purchase, sell, gift or trade any account, and that such an attempt may lead to forfeiture of the account. No seller can remove that risk; a warranty can only cover a previous owner taking the account back.

What our warranty covers

Every METAMMO account is checked by hand before listing and carries a lifetime warranty against recovery: if a previous owner ever takes the account back, the original buyer gets a replacement or a refund. Bans are not covered — trading accounts is against Blizzard’s terms and no seller controls that.

Buying FAQ

Is it safe to buy a WoW Classic account?

It carries two risks. The previous owner can recover the account if they still control its email or authenticator, and Blizzard’s End User License Agreement forbids buying and selling accounts, which can lead to action against it. Full access including the email and authenticator removes most of the first risk; nothing removes the second. METAMMO accounts carry a lifetime warranty against recovery by a previous owner — refund or replacement for the original buyer; bans are not covered.

Can I move a bought Classic character to another region or version?

Not to another region: Blizzard does not transfer characters between Europe and North America. Anniversary Hardcore characters stay on their realm or move to Classic Era; they do not become TBC characters.

Do I need a subscription for a Classic account?

Yes. Blizzard states that TBC Anniversary is included with a World of Warcraft subscription or game time, so the account needs active game time to play.

What does an “Epic Edition” Classic account mean?

Most likely the Outland Epic Pack, Blizzard’s paid upgrade for TBC Anniversary: cosmetics plus a Level 58 Character Boost and 30 days of game time. On its own it does not add a levelled character — check the character list, not the edition.
