The best class for TBC Anniversary right now is Warlock: Destruction sits in S tier for damage and raids happily bring up to five. Beast Mastery Hunter and Fury Warrior share the top DPS tier, Protection Paladin is the strongest tank, and Holy Priest and Restoration Shaman are the safest healers for Phase 3 and the Zul'Aman update on October 22, 2026.
Key facts for October 2026
| Item | Status |
|---|---|
| Current phase | Phase 3, live since August 27, 2026 (Black Temple, Mount Hyjal, Netherwing, epic gems) |
| Next update | Zul'Aman, October 22, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PDT: 10 players, no attunement, 3 day reset |
| Final tier | Sunwell Plateau (Phase 4), announced for autumn 2026 with no exact date |
| Arena | Season 3 started September 1, 2026 |
| Tier list basis | Wowhead Phase 3 PvE tier lists, updated August 26, 2026 |
All tier placements below come from Wowhead's Phase 3 lists for Black Temple and Mount Hyjal, cross-checked with Warcraft Tavern's Anniversary guides. Tier lists rank raid value, which is throughput plus utility, so a B tier spec in a good guild still clears everything.

Best DPS classes in Phase 3
| Tier | Specs |
|---|---|
| S | Beast Mastery Hunter, Fury Warrior, Destruction Warlock |
| A | Arcane Mage, Retribution Paladin, Arms Warrior, Enhancement Shaman, Affliction Warlock, Survival Hunter |
| B | Combat Rogue, Shadow Priest, Feral Druid, Elemental Shaman, Balance Druid, Fire Mage |
| C and D | Frost Mage, Demonology Warlock, Marksmanship Hunter, Assassination Rogue, Subtlety Rogue |
Warlock
Warlocks never fall off in TBC. Seed of Corruption shreds the trash waves of Mount Hyjal, Life Tap keeps them casting through long fights like the Illidari Council, and Banish and Fear handle the many demon packs. They also bring Soulstones, summons and healthstones. Wowhead notes raids often run up to five Warlocks, which makes it the easiest DPS class to get invited with.
Beast Mastery Hunter
Phase 3 adds a lot of armor penetration gear and many bosses have low armor, which favors physical damage. Beast Mastery stays a chart-topping single target spec with a simple rotation. Raids also like several Hunters because every extra Misdirection makes tank threat safer.
Fury Warrior
Fury is the only melee spec in S tier. Uncapped rage means it never runs dry, it cleaves well on Hyjal waves, and it scales strongly with armor penetration. The Warglaives of Azzinoth from Illidan push a geared Warrior even higher.
Specs with one raid slot
Retribution Paladin, Arms Warrior and Combat Rogue all perform well, but each is usually limited to one spot because raids bring them for a single debuff or buff: Improved Seal of the Crusader, Blood Frenzy and Improved Expose Armor. If you play one of these, you compete with every other applicant for that seat.
Best tanks and healers
| Role | S tier | A tier | B tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tank | Protection Paladin | Feral Druid | Protection Warrior |
| Healer | Holy Priest, Restoration Shaman | Holy Paladin, Restoration Druid | Discipline Priest |
Protection Paladin moved up to S tier in Phase 3. Hyjal is a wave raid where AoE threat decides clear speed, most bosses and trash are demons or undead, and Exorcism and Holy Wrath add threat on those targets. A Paladin can also reach avoidance cap without miss, which makes it immune to Illidan's Shear.
Feral Druid remains the best single target tank with the highest effective health. Protection Warrior dropped to B because Improved Revenge and Thunder Clap do not scale with gear, although its cooldowns are still unmatched.
Restoration Shaman is the most useful healer in the raid. In the Anniversary edition Heroism and Bloodlust reset when a boss encounter ends, win or wipe, and Warcraft Tavern notes the effect is raid wide. Holy Priest pairs AoE and single target healing with strong Tier 6 set bonuses. Holy Paladin is still the main tank healer, usually one per raid.
Best classes for arena and solo play
Arena Season 3 started on September 1, 2026, and Anniversary ratings start at 1,500 instead of zero. Warcraft Tavern rates Frost Mage and Affliction Warlock as top arena picks for their control, and lists Shaman specs as weak in 2v2. Wowhead points out that Discipline Priest's Pain Suppression and Power Infusion are far more valuable in arena than in raids.
- Arena: Frost Mage, Affliction Warlock, Discipline Priest.
- Solo farming and gold: Demonology Warlock, Frost Mage, Rogue (Warcraft Tavern solo rankings).
- Do everything: Warlock, because it is top tier in raids, arena and solo content at once.

What Zul'Aman changes on October 22
Blizzard's announcement for "The Gods of Zul'Aman" adds a six boss, 10 player raid in the Ghostlands with no attunement and a 3 day lockout. The timed hostage run rewards the Amani War Bear. The same update brings a catch-up package:
- Black Temple and Battle for Mount Hyjal no longer require attunement.
- Heroic dungeon keys need only Honored reputation, and heroics get reduced difficulty.
- Badges of Justice drop from more raid and world bosses.
- Doomlord Kazzak and Doomwalker loot becomes Bind on Equip.
- Primal Nether and Nether Vortex are no longer soulbound.
The attunement premium disappears on October 22. A level 70 listed as "BT and Hyjal attuned" is worth exactly what an unattuned one is worth after that date, so judge any character by its class, its Tier 6 pieces and its gear score, not by the quest chains it finished.
Which class to buy at level 70
Buying a ready character skips weeks of gearing, so the class choice matters more than the price tag. Match it to what you will actually do each week.
- Guaranteed raid spot: Warlock, Protection Paladin or Restoration Shaman.
- Top damage with a simple rotation: Beast Mastery Hunter.
- Melee with legendary upside: Fury Warrior, since the Warglaives drop from Illidan.
- Arena: Frost Mage or Affliction Warlock.
- Gold farming between raids: Frost Mage or Demonology Warlock.
Once the class is set, check the character itself: Tier 5 or Tier 6 pieces, epic flying for the Netherwing dailies, maxed professions, and the realm. Spineshatter and Thunderstrike differ in ruleset and population, which our WoW Classic realm guide covers. For a full checklist, read what to look for in a WoW Classic account and our Phase 3 Black Temple account guide.
You can browse level 70 TBC Anniversary characters or go straight to Mage accounts if Frost or Arcane fits your plan. The WoW Classic hub links every realm, price and buying guide we keep updated.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best class in TBC Anniversary overall?
Warlock. Destruction is S tier DPS in Phase 3, raids bring several, and Affliction is a top arena spec. For pure damage, Beast Mastery Hunter and Fury Warrior share the same S tier.
What is the best tank for Black Temple and Hyjal?
Protection Paladin, rated S tier by Wowhead for Phase 3. It dominates AoE threat on Hyjal waves and can become immune to Illidan's Shear. Feral Druid is a close second for single target bosses.
Which healer gets raid invites fastest?
Restoration Shaman. It brings raid wide Heroism or Bloodlust, strong totems and Chain Heal. Holy Priest is equally S tier, and every raid still wants one Holy Paladin for tank healing.
Does Zul'Aman need an attunement?
No. Zul'Aman has no attunement, and from October 22, 2026 Black Temple and Mount Hyjal drop their attunement requirements too.
When does Sunwell Plateau release on TBC Anniversary?
Phase 4, Fury of the Sunwell, is scheduled for autumn 2026, but no exact date has been announced as of October 11, 2026.
