Black Desert's Hyperboost program now takes a new or returning character to roughly 730 to 750 Gear Score in about seven hours of active play, so paying for an account at that level no longer makes sense. An account is worth buying in 2026 only when it holds what Hyperboost cannot hand out: 400+ AP, DEC gear, Edania tier accessories, treasures and mythical horses.

What Hyperboost gives you for free
Pearl Abyss built Hyperboost for new and returning players, and it covers the full mid game. A character that graduates from the Season and goes through Olvia Academy collects the following:
- A PEN (V) Tuvala gear set on Season graduation, worth 582 Gear Score.
- Materials for all three Sovereign weapons: five PEN (V) Blackstar weapons, a Flame of the Primordial and a Gem of Twilight.
- Six PEN (V) Kharazad accessories through quests.
- Four Slumbering Origin armor pieces from the Black Shrine solo bosses.
- Two Inverted Hearts of Garmoth, with the playtime requirement cut from 200 to 100 hours.
Before this program, one guide estimates that reaching the same point took the better part of a year of enhancement. Now it is a long weekend.
Where Hyperboost stops
The free route ends just below the content that the 2026 updates added. Edania Part 2 opened Inner Edania on 13 August 2026 with six monster zones and four boss subjugations. Hadum followed on 17 September 2026 as the finale of the Act 1 story.

Entry also requires red grade or higher weapons, armor and accessories. Even Gavinya Coastal Cliff, the zone added with Hyperboost itself, recommends 400 AP and 470 DP on the displayed stats.
The gear that closes that gap is slow by design. Sovereign weapons and Kharazad accessories have to be pushed from PEN toward DEC, and the new Ekleta accessories cannot be bought on the Central Market at all. Apeiron accessories, added at the same time, are tradeable.
Hyperboost did not make strong accounts any faster to build. It wiped out the value of average ones. The free route ends right where most mid tier accounts used to sit, so the only thing still worth paying for is the AP that sits above the free route.

What to check on a high Gear Score account
A single Gear Score number hides a lot. Two accounts at the same score can sit on opposite sides of a boss requirement. Check these points:
- AP and DP split. Bosses gate on AP, so 400 AP with lower DP beats the reverse for Inner Edania.
- Enhancement level. DEC (X) Sovereign weapons and accessories are the expensive part. PEN gear is what Hyperboost gives away.
- Ekleta accessories. They cannot be bought on the market, so owning them saves weeks.
- Treasures and horses. Treasure items and mythical horses take months and do not come from Hyperboost.
- Region and login. NA and EU are separate. Steam accounts log in through Steam, others through Pearl Abyss.
- Email access. The original email must come with the account.

Level 75 changes the math
The 8 October 2026 update raised the level cap from 70 to 75 and reworked Combat EXP. Characters stop gaining EXP at 75.
From level 70 onward, each level adds Extra AP Against Monsters and Monster Damage Reduction, reaching +18 of each at level 75. A high level character now carries combat value that a fresh Hyperboost character does not have yet.

Yes. Pearl Abyss lists existing Adventurers and new Season characters as eligible. Some rewards require a Season character at level 61 or higher.
