Fortnite does not show an account creation date in the game, so check it from outside: the oldest entry in the Transactions tab on epicgames.com, the original welcome email, and items in the locker that could only be earned in a known season. For an OG account, the dated items are the real proof, because many old skins have since returned to the shop.
Key facts at a glance
| Method | What it proves | How reliable |
|---|---|---|
| Oldest transaction on epicgames.com | The account was in use by that date | High, but only covers purchases and redemptions |
| Epic welcome email | The day the Epic account was registered | High, if the original inbox is available |
| Original owner styles on OG skins | The skin was bought in 2017 | High, Epic grants these only to original buyers |
| Chapter 1 Battle Pass outfits | The pass was owned in that season | High, these outfits have not been sold again |
| Skin name in a listing title | Nothing on its own | Low, many OG skins returned to the shop |
Method 1: the Transactions tab
Every Epic account has a purchase history. Epic's help page gives the path: sign in at epicgames.com, open Account, then the Transactions tab and the Purchase tab. Purchases are listed from most recent to oldest, and a Show More button at the bottom loads older entries.
The list includes purchases, subscriptions, code redemptions and V-Bucks card redemptions. That makes it the best single source for dating an account you are about to buy. A V-Bucks purchase or a Founder's Pack from 2017 says far more than any screenshot of the locker.
Two limits matter. The history shows money spent, not the day the account was created. And it does not show how V-Bucks were spent inside Fortnite. Epic says there is currently no way to see that, so you cannot see the exact day a skin was bought from this page.
Method 2: the original email
When an Epic account is registered, Epic sends a welcome email to the address used. If you have access to that inbox, searching for "Epic Games" and sorting by oldest is the fastest way to find the real registration day.
For a buyer, this check doubles as a safety check. The person who controls the original email can recover the account through Epic support. If a seller cannot give you the original email, the age of the account matters less than who can take it back.

Method 3: items that date the account
This is where most "OG" claims are won or lost. Some items only exist on accounts that were active in a given season. Others came back to the shop and prove nothing. The table below lists Chapter 1 season dates so you can match an item to its window.
| Chapter 1 season | Dates | Example of a dating item |
|---|---|---|
| Season 1 | 26 October to 13 December 2017 | Renegade Raider in Black and Gold style |
| Season 2 | 14 December 2017 to 21 February 2018 | Black Knight (Battle Pass tier 70), Sparkle Specialist (tier 56) |
| Season 5 | 12 July to 26 September 2018 | Warpaint and Rose Team Leader for Founders, added 24 July 2018 |
Original owner styles
Renegade Raider was first sold from 8 November to 13 December 2017. It returned in the OG Season Shop from 20 December 2024 and was last seen on 31 January 2026. To separate the two groups, Epic added a Black and Gold style in update v33.20 that only players who bought it in 2017 receive.
The same logic applies to the Halloween skins. Skull Trooper and Ghoul Trooper were released on 26 October 2017 and come back most Octobers. They were in the shop again in October 2026. Only 2017 buyers have the Purple Glow style on Skull Trooper and the Pink style on Ghoul Trooper.
A re-released skin with the original owner style is better proof of age than a skin that never came back. The style is granted by Epic to 2017 buyers only, so it cannot be bought today, while a Battle Pass item only proves the pass was owned in that season.
Chapter 1 Battle Pass outfits
Black Knight was the tier 70 reward of the Season 2 Battle Pass, added on 14 December 2017. Sparkle Specialist was the tier 56 reward of the same pass, and could also be won by placing in the top 100 of the Boogie Down Contest in Season 3. Either one on an account means it was active in early 2018.
Be careful with similar names. A newer back bling called The Black Knight has been sold in the shop, and it is not the Season 2 outfit. Check the outfit itself in the locker, not a matching accessory.

A quick checklist before you buy an "OG" account
- Ask for a screenshot or video of the style selector on each OG skin, showing Black and Gold, Purple Glow or Pink.
- Ask for the oldest page of the Transactions tab, with the date visible.
- Check Chapter 1 Battle Pass outfits in the locker, not back blings with similar names.
- Confirm the original email comes with the account.
- Check which consoles are linked and whether they will be unlinked before handover.

Frequently asked questions
Can I see my Fortnite account creation date in the game?
No. Fortnite does not display a creation date. Use the oldest entry in the Transactions tab on epicgames.com, the welcome email from Epic, or items in the locker that date to a known season.
Does the Transactions tab show when I bought each skin?
No. It shows purchases with real money, code redemptions and V-Bucks card redemptions. Epic says there is currently no way to see how V-Bucks were spent inside Fortnite.
Is Renegade Raider proof of an OG account?
Not on its own. It returned in the OG Season Shop in December 2024 and again until 31 January 2026. Only the Black and Gold style proves it was bought in 2017.
How do I tell an OG Ghoul Trooper from a new one?
Open the style selector. The Pink style is exclusive to players who bought Ghoul Trooper in 2017. A Ghoul Trooper without Pink was bought during one of its later returns.
Which season was Black Knight from?
Black Knight was the tier 70 reward of the Chapter 1 Season 2 Battle Pass, which ran from 14 December 2017 to 21 February 2018. The outfit has not been sold since.
