Short answer: buy a World of Warcraft account either on an escrow marketplace (G2G, Eldorado, GameBoost, U7BUY or PlayerAuctions), where the platform holds your payment until delivery, or from a direct seller with a written warranty against recovery, such as METAMMO. What you are buying is a whole Battle.net account, and the biggest risk is the original owner taking it back through Blizzard support after the sale. Take over the email and the authenticator, and check the region before you pay, because it cannot be changed.
Marketplace terms below come from each platform's own help pages, checked 6 October 2026. This guide was updated on 9 October 2026.
Battle.net account, not a character
Retail characters sit on a Battle.net account that can also hold WoW Classic and other Blizzard games and their purchases. A seller cannot hand over a single character; you receive the Battle.net login and everything on it. Whoever controls the Battle.net email and authenticator can reset the password, and an original owner with the account's details or payment records can go to Blizzard support. Recoveries like this tend to come after a short warranty has ended.
Blizzard's End User License Agreement says you may not purchase, sell, gift or trade any account, and that an attempt may lead to forfeiture of the account. No seller can remove that risk.
Region, expansion and what sets the price
Blizzard does not move World of Warcraft characters or accounts between regions (Blizzard support), so an EU account stays on EU realms. Midnight launched on 2 March 2026, and Season 2 began on 18 August 2026. Playing retail needs active game time and the current expansion on the account. Beyond a geared character, what buyers pay for is what cannot be caught up: Gladiator titles and mounts from seasons that have ended, Cutting Edge achievements and rare or removed collectibles. Our collectibles page shows which ones can still be earned.
Where to buy a WoW account: buyer protection compared

| Eldorado.gg | Marketplace with escrow | 5 days on most games | Yes: "recovered by the seller" is a listed case, as are bans caused by the transfer (details) | 3 or 6 months on selected offers | 3 days after delivery |
| GameBoost | Marketplace with escrow | 14 days | Yes: an account banned or compromised through no fault of yours is paid as store credit | Lifetime, sold as an add-on | Straight after delivery |
| U7BUY | Marketplace with escrow | At least 14 days | Yes: recovery by the seller and bans caused by the transfer | No published terms found | 72 hours after shipping |

Platform-wide account terms from each platform's own help pages, checked 6 October 2026. Which marketplaces carry WoW listings on a given day varies; these terms apply to any account bought there. Dispute handling, seller ID checks and support channels are compared in our marketplace comparison.
All five marketplaces hold the payment until delivery, which protects you against a seller who never hands over the login. Their cover then runs for a fixed period, from 5 days to a few weeks. A Battle.net recovery can come much later than that, which is why METAMMO's warranty against recovery has no end date.
What to check before paying
- The Battle.net email. You must end up controlling the email bound to the account. Without it the previous owner can reset the password.
- The authenticator and phone. If an authenticator or phone number is attached, it has to come off the previous owner's device and onto yours. Otherwise they keep a way in.
- Region, realm and faction. Confirm the region you will play on, and the realm and faction of the main character.
- Titles and collectibles, with screenshots. Ask for in-game screenshots of the achievements, titles and mount journal, or an armory link that shows them. A list in the title is not proof.
- Item level and alts. Check the character sheet of the character the price is for, and which other characters are levelled.
- Game time and the expansion. Check whether the account has Midnight and active game time, or budget for both.
- Who opened the account. Ask whether the seller is the original owner. A reseller cannot stop the first owner from contacting Blizzard.
Red flags
- A seller offering to "transfer the character" to your own Battle.net account.
- No authenticator handover, or an email the seller wants to keep.
- A Gladiator title in the listing with no achievement screenshot or armory link.
- A promise that an EU account can be moved to US realms, or the other way round.
- A request to pay outside the marketplace, or a promise that the account cannot be banned.
How METAMMO handles World of Warcraft accounts
METAMMO is a direct seller: we sell our own stock instead of hosting other sellers. Every World of Warcraft account is checked by hand before it is listed. Our warranty is lifetime and covers one thing: if a previous owner ever takes the account back, you get a full refund or a replacement, and confirmed claims are settled within 48 hours. Publisher bans are not covered, because no seller controls them.
If you are not sure which account fits you, tell us on Discord or by email what you want to play and we help you choose. Delivery is usually within minutes to a few hours, at most 24, and you can cancel for a full refund at any time before delivery. What you give up compared with a marketplace is third-party escrow, so check our public record on G2G, Eldorado and GameBoost first.

Frequently asked questions
Where is the safest place to buy a WoW account?
A seller who covers both a failed delivery and a later recovery. Marketplaces give escrow and a fixed cover period; METAMMO, a direct seller, gives a lifetime warranty against recovery by a previous owner. In both cases take over the Battle.net email and authenticator.
Can I buy just a WoW character?
Not in a normal sale. Characters live on a Battle.net account, and what changes hands is that account with everything on it.
Can I move a bought EU account to US realms?
No. Blizzard does not transfer World of Warcraft characters or accounts between regions.
Does a retail WoW account need a subscription?
Yes. Playing retail needs active game time, and the current expansion, Midnight, on the account.
Is buying a WoW account against Blizzard's rules?
Yes. Blizzard's End User License Agreement forbids buying or selling accounts and says it may lead to forfeiture. METAMMO's warranty covers recovery by a previous owner, not bans.
