Buying a WoW account

A World of Warcraft account is priced on titles, collectibles and item level, and is only yours if you control its Battle.net email and authenticator. Here is what to check before paying, what the market pays for, and what Blizzard’s terms mean for a buyer.

Checklist

Seven things to check

  1. 1

It is a whole Battle.net account

World of Warcraft characters live on a Battle.net account, which can also hold other Blizzard games and their purchases. Ask what else is on it, and make sure you receive the Battle.net login itself — not access to a single character.

  2. 2

    The Battle.net email

You should end up controlling the email bound to the Battle.net account. Without it, the previous owner can reset the password and take the account back.

  3. 3

    The authenticator

If the account has an authenticator attached, it must be removed from the previous owner’s phone and attached to yours after purchase; otherwise they keep a way in.

  4. 4

    The region

EU, US and other regions are separate. Blizzard does not move World of Warcraft characters or accounts between regions, so an EU account stays on EU realms. Buy the region you will play on.

  5. 5

Item level, titles and collectibles — with screenshots

An account is priced on item level, PvP titles such as Gladiator, and rare or removed collectibles. Ask for in-game screenshots of the character sheet, the achievements and the mount journal rather than a list in the title.

METAMMO WoW Midnight account price index (daily, public listings)

  6. 6

    Game time and the expansion

Playing retail World of Warcraft needs active game time and the current expansion on the account. Check both before paying, or budget for them.

  7. 7

    Blizzard’s terms

Blizzard’s End User License Agreement does not allow selling or transferring accounts, so a purchase carries the risk of action against the account. No seller can remove that risk; a warranty can only cover the previous owner taking the account back.

What the market pays for

Titles and collectibles come first

Across 834 public retail listings in the last 90 days, the median asking price was $193 for a high-end PvE account, $474 with Gladiator or Rank 1 titles and $976 for collector accounts with rare or removed items. Most of these listings are on FunPay, from European and Russian-speaking sellers.Data

What our warranty covers

Every METAMMO account is checked by hand before listing and carries a lifetime warranty against recovery: if a previous owner ever takes the account back, the original buyer gets a replacement or a refund. Bans are not covered — trading accounts is against Blizzard’s terms and no seller controls that.

Buying FAQ

Is it safe to buy a World of Warcraft account?

It carries two risks. The previous owner can recover the account if they still control its email or authenticator, and Blizzard’s End User License Agreement forbids selling and transferring accounts, which can lead to action against it. Full access including the email and authenticator removes most of the first risk; nothing removes the second. METAMMO accounts carry a lifetime warranty against recovery by a previous owner — refund or replacement for the original buyer; bans are not covered.

What should a WoW account cost?

In public retail listings over the last 90 days, the median asking price was $87 for a levelled account, $125 geared, $193 high-end PvE, $474 with Gladiator or Rank 1 titles and $976 for collector accounts. Most listings are from European marketplaces; full breakdown on the price index.

Can I move a bought EU account to US servers?

No. Blizzard does not transfer World of Warcraft characters or accounts between regions, so the region an account is on is the one you play on.
