Short answer: buy a MapleStory account from a seller that hands over the original email of the Nexon account, because Nexon decides ownership disputes by that email. A direct store such as METAMMO sells to you itself, checks every account by hand and covers it for life against recovery by a previous owner; escrow marketplaces such as G2G, Eldorado and PlayerAuctions host many sellers and cover you for days or weeks. Pick the world first (Heroic Kronos, Hyperion or Solis, or an Interactive world), because a character cannot change world.

Store or marketplace: what is the difference?
On a marketplace you buy from one of many sellers. The platform does not own or check the account; it holds the payment, takes a fee and settles disputes within its cover period. Quality depends on the seller you happen to pick, and the same account is often listed by several resellers at once.
With a direct store there is one seller: the store. It sources the account, checks it by hand and answers for it after the sale. What you give up is third-party escrow, so look at the store's public record before you pay. METAMMO's record is public on G2G, Eldorado and GameBoost.
Why recovery is the main risk with MapleStory
When an account is disputed, Nexon decides who owns it by the original email, the name and birth date on the account, the games played and recent NX purchases. A previous owner who kept the original email can usually win that dispute, weeks or months after the sale. That is why "OG email" is the most important line in any MapleStory listing, and why a 5 or 14 day cover window is short for this game.
Characters belong to the Nexon account. Steam is a linked login, one Nexon account per Steam account, and characters cannot move between Nexon accounts. If the account plays through Steam, the Steam account is part of the sale.
When the email changes, Nexon sends a notice to the previous address with a revert link that works for seven days. If the seller still controls that mailbox, they can undo your change, so get the mailbox itself or watch the account closely that week.
The second risk is the publisher. Nexon's Code of Conduct forbids using its games for commercial purposes, including selling accounts, NX or in-game items; its User Abuse page lists account trading and account sharing, and the Banning Guidelines set bans from 3 days to permanent. Since September 2026 a ban in MapleStory or MapleStory Classic World applies to both on the same account. No seller can remove that risk, and nobody should promise otherwise.

Every marketplace above holds your payment until delivery, which protects you against a seller who never hands over the login. Their cover then runs for a fixed period, while a recovery by a previous owner can come months later. That gap is why the length of cover matters as much as having cover at all.
Heroic or Interactive: pick the world first
Heroic worlds (Kronos and Hyperion in North America, Solis in Europe) have no Auction House and no trading of equipment between accounts, so everything on a Heroic account was earned on that account. Interactive worlds (Bera, Scania, Luna) allow trading. Aurora and Elysium were merged into Scania in August 2025, so older listings may still name them.
A strong Kronos character does nothing for you on Hyperion, and Legion is built per world from the whole roster there. Buy on the world and region you will actually play. MapleStory Classic World, which opened in Founder's Access in October 2026, shares only the NX balance, so a MapleStory account brings no Classic World progress.
What to check before paying
- The original email. Ask whether the email the Nexon account was created with comes with the sale. Without it, a previous owner can win an ownership dispute.
- How it signs in. Nexon, Steam or a social login (Google, Facebook, Apple). A Steam-linked account needs the Steam account too.
- The character on Nexon's rankings. The official rankings show name, level, job, world and Legion level. Ask for the character name and look it up before you pay.
- Combat Power, gear and HEXA on screenshots. Ask for the character window with Combat Power, the equipment window with Star Force and Potential, the HEXA Matrix and the Legion board. Titles round up.
- The world and region. Confirm them on the character select screen.
- Two-factor authentication. Nexon replaced the PIC with two-factor authentication by SMS or an authenticator app. After the sale, change the email and password, move 2FA to you and reset trusted devices.
Red flags
- A seller who will not hand over the original email, or offers only the Steam login.
- A character that does not show on the rankings under the world in the listing.
- Combat Power or Legion typed in the title with no screenshot.
- Large NX purchases in the last 90 days that the seller could charge back.
- A request to pay outside the marketplace to save fees.
- A promise that the account cannot be banned. Nobody can promise that.
