WoW Forever Darkspear Islands: 15v15 Battleground Guide

October 15, 2026·METAMMO Team

Battle for the Darkspear Islands is a new 15v15 battleground in WoW: Forever, set on islands off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh and open to players from level 30 to 60. Teams score by holding four capture points and by carrying a central flag to bases they control, and the first side to 2,000 points wins.

Blizzard published the full preview on October 7, 2026. This guide covers the format, the objectives, how to queue and what the two reputation factions sell, using only what Blizzard has announced so far.

What Battle for the Darkspear Islands is

The battleground was first shown at the What's Next panel recap on September 12, 2026, where Blizzard described it as a 15 vs 15 map off Kalimdor that mixes control points with flag captures in the style of Arathi Basin. The October 7 preview filled in the details: location, level range, win condition and rewards.

The setting is a fight between two new military groups. The Darkspear Raiders represent the Horde, and the Theramore Expeditionary Force represents the Alliance. Both want control of the islands and the footholds on them.

It sits next to the three original battlegrounds rather than replacing any of them. In a September 14 Kotaku interview, lead designer Tim Jones described new battlegrounds such as Darkspear Islands as an addition to the original options.

Objectives: capture points and the flag

Score comes from two sources. The first is territory. There are four capture points spread across the islands, and every point your team holds adds to your score over time. The more points you hold at once, the faster your total climbs.

The second source is the flag. It spawns in the middle of the map. A player who picks it up and brings it to one of the bases their team currently controls earns extra points for the team. That means the flag only pays out if you already own at least one base, so territory and flag play feed each other.

Blizzard has not published exact numbers for how many points each base produces per tick or how much a flag capture is worth. Until those values appear in a build, any precise math you see online is a guess. What is clear from the preview: holding more bases speeds up scoring, and the flag is a swing objective both teams will fight over.

For players who remember Burning Crusade, this is the same broad idea as Eye of the Storm, where bases and a central flag both score. Blizzard's own comparison in the September panel recap was to Arathi Basin style flag play.

Level range and who can join

The bracket is level 30 to 60. That makes it one of the earliest PvP options for a leveling character, and it means you can start earning its reputation long before the level cap. If you plan your route through the mid levels, see our WoW: Forever leveling hub for zone order and dungeon stops.

Blizzard has not said how the 30 to 60 range is split into brackets inside the queue, so it is unknown whether a level 31 character can be matched against a level 60. Treat that as open until it is tested in a live build.

The ruleset you pick also matters less here than in the open world. Blizzard's September 21 ruleset article says battlegrounds may mix players from Normal, PvP and Roleplaying, while Hardcore stays separate.

How to queue

There are two ways in, according to the October 7 preview:

  • Battlemasters. Speak to a battlemaster in any major capital city.
  • Faction bases in Kalimdor. Horde players can travel to the Darkspear Raiders base at the Merchant Coast. Alliance players can go to the Theramore Expeditionary Force base at Northwatch. A portal at each base takes you into the battle.

The bases are worth a visit even if you queue from a city. They host the reputation vendors and the quest givers for the battleground.

Rewards and reputation

Each faction has its own reputation track: Darkspear Raiders for the Horde and Theramore Expeditionary Force for the Alliance. As your standing rises, the vendor unlocks more items. Blizzard lists the reward categories as trinkets, rings, cloaks, weapons, armor pieces and consumables. Individual item names and stats have not been published in an official article yet.

Quests are the other half of the system. Some battleground quests take Marks of Honor as turn-ins in exchange for reputation. Once you reach Exalted, a short questline unlocks that rewards the faction's exclusive tabard.

Reward sourceWhat you get
Reputation vendorTrinkets, rings, cloaks, weapons, armor pieces, consumables at set thresholds
Battleground questsReputation, including Marks of Honor turn-ins
Exalted questlineExclusive faction tabard
Legacy SystemExalted with each battleground reputation counts toward PvP Legacy Challenges

That last row comes from Blizzard's September 23 Legacy System article. It lists a challenge for reaching Exalted with each battleground reputation, worth four Legacy Points in total. Blizzard does not list which four reputations count, so we do not assume the split.

How it fits into PvP progression

Matches here also feed the wider PvP system. Battlegrounds award Honor and Rank Points, and Blizzard says highlighted battlegrounds give more of both during their holiday weeks. Honor buys the blue and epic PvP sets, while Rank Points move you toward High Warlord or Grand Marshal under a weekly cap.

We cover those systems in our PvP ranks, Honor and gear guide, and the WoW: Forever PvP hub collects the rest of our battleground coverage.

What is still unknown

  • Exact points per base per tick and the value of a flag capture.
  • Whether the 30 to 60 range is split into smaller brackets.
  • Item names, stats and the reputation level each reward needs.
  • Whether the map is playable in the beta, which Blizzard caps at level 30 until it ends in October.

Launch is November 4, 2026. If you want a character ready for the 30 to 60 bracket sooner, our boost and leveling price guide explains the time involved.
