WoW Forever PvP Ranks, Honor and Gear: How Progression Works

October 15, 2026·METAMMO Team

PvP progression in WoW: Forever runs on two tracks: Honor, a currency you spend on gear, and Rank Points, which climb you from Rank 1 to Rank 14 under a weekly cap. Honor buys a blue PvP set, and each blue piece can be upgraded to epic with an Emboldened Seal that needs a minimum rank.

Blizzard laid out the system in an official article on October 7, 2026. This guide collects what is confirmed, what each rank unlocks, and the beta numbers we have so far.

The two tracks: Honor and Rank Points

The original game used a single, demanding honor ladder with weekly standings against other players. Forever splits this into two separate resources, which Blizzard says keeps the old structure while making it easier to approach.

Honor is a currency. You earn it by defeating other players, completing battlegrounds and finishing relevant PvP quests. It is what you spend at the PvP vendors.

Rank Points are progress, not currency. They come from battlegrounds and PvP quests, and as they add up you move through the familiar ranks toward High Warlord for the Horde or Grand Marshal for the Alliance. Ranks have a weekly cap, so a single week of nonstop play cannot carry you to the top.

Blizzard has not published the size of that weekly cap or how many Rank Points each rank needs. Treat any specific number you see as unconfirmed until it appears in an official post or a live build.

Blizzard also says it reviewed Honor rates across all battlegrounds so they are more even. The stated goal is that Alterac Valley should no longer be the only sensible pick for Honor per hour. The new 15v15 map, covered in our Darkspear Islands battleground guide, joins that rotation.

A Legacy perk called For Great Honor, listed in Blizzard's September 23 Legacy System article, increases Honor gains from PvP. Our Legacy System page explains how perks and points work across your account.

Rank rewards from 1 to 14

The October 7 article lists what each rank unlocks. Ranks 8 to 13 unlock the upgrade tokens that turn blue pieces into epic ones, and Rank 14 unlocks the epic weapons.

The two-tier gear system

Honor buys two sets of PvP gear: a blue-quality set and an epic-quality set. You do not buy the epic set outright. To get an epic piece you need the matching blue piece plus an Emboldened Seal, and seals have rank requirements you must meet before you can buy them.

TierQualityWhat you needRank gate
Tier 1BlueHonorNo rank gate announced
Tier 2EpicThe blue piece, an Emboldened Seal, HonorYes: upgrade tokens unlock by slot at ranks 8 to 13; epic weapons at Rank 14

In practice, Honor pays for both steps, but rank decides how far up the epic set you can go. A player who stops at Rank 10 can upgrade bracers, belt, boots and gloves, while chest and helm wait until Rank 13.

Blizzard also added new and reworked items to cover specializations that lacked PvP options in the original game. The example given is the Shaman, which now gets separate healer, melee and caster PvP sets. Other classes were not itemized in the article.

Beta numbers: costs and the Honor cap

The beta development notes updated October 1, 2026 changed the economy. Most Honor costs for PvP gear and upgrade tokens rose by about 50% to match Blizzard's gear acquisition targets. To make room, the Honor cap went from 15,000 to 25,000.

These are beta values and may change again before launch on November 4, 2026. Item prices in Honor have not been published in an official article.

PvP seasons and the Field of Honor journey

Progress is organized in seasons. During a season you climb ranks and earn Honor, and each season has a journey with weekly tasks. Completing them grants Honor and Rank Points, and three tasks per season also grant a Legacy Point.

The Legacy System article names this journey Field of Honor and lists the quests for weeks 4, 7 and 10 as the ones that count. So the journey runs at least ten weeks. Blizzard has not stated a season length.

On resets, the official October 7 article is silent. In a September 14 Kotaku interview, lead designer Tim Jones said players can reach Rank 14 within a season or patch cycle, which implies ranks start over with each cycle. Blizzard's 2026/2027 roadmap lists a PvP season refresh in both Spring and Summer 2027.

Legacy Challenges tied to PvP

PvP is one of six Legacy categories, worth 12 Legacy Points in total:

  • Reach ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 (5 points).
  • Reach Exalted with each battleground reputation (4 points).
  • Complete the week 4, 7 and 10 quests of the Field of Honor journey (3 points).

Legacy progress is account-wide, so these only need to be done once. For the broader picture, including rulesets and open-world PvP, see our WoW: Forever PvP hub.

Getting to 60 first

Darkspear Islands opens at level 30, but the epic set and high ranks are aimed at level 60 characters. If time is the constraint, our boost and leveling price guide lays out what reaching 60 involves.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a weekly cap on PvP ranks in WoW: Forever?

Yes. Blizzard confirmed ranks have a weekly cap. The size of the cap has not been published.

How do I get epic PvP gear?

Buy the blue piece with Honor, then combine it with an Emboldened Seal. Per Blizzard's rank table, the upgrade tokens unlock at Rank 8 for bracers and belt, rising to Rank 13 for chest and helm; epic weapons come at Rank 14.

What is the Honor cap in WoW: Forever?

In the beta notes updated October 1, 2026, the cap rose from 15,000 to 25,000 Honor. That may change before launch.

Do PvP ranks reset each season?

Blizzard's PvP article does not say. Tim Jones told Kotaku on September 14 that Rank 14 is reachable within a season or patch cycle, which points to a reset each cycle.

Is Alterac Valley still the best for Honor?

Blizzard says it rebalanced Honor so Alterac Valley is not the only efficient choice. Holiday-week battlegrounds give extra Honor and Rank Points.
