WoW Forever Quest Helper: Quest Markers, Map Objectives, Questie

November 8, 2026·METAMMO Team

WoW: Forever has a built-in quest helper. Quest points of interest and marked objective areas on the map are part of the Enhanced experience preset and are off by default in the Classic preset, according to Blizzard's "What's New and What Feels Familiar" article (November 3, 2026). Blizzard's starter guide (October 28) says the world map shows quest markers and highlighted objective areas, the minimap points toward nearby objectives, and every setting can be changed later under Options. Questie has a separate Forever build. Its developers have been releasing fixes almost every day since launch.

Why quest markers are not showing on your map

When you first log in, you pick an Experience Preset: Classic or Enhanced. Blizzard says Enhanced turns on quest guidance ("points of interest and marked objective areas help you find where to go next"), the one-bag view, transmog and HD character models. Classic uses standard-definition models and turns quest guidance, the one-bag view and transmog off by default. Blizzard calls these "defaults, not player skill." The starter guide says the preset gives you a starting point and that you can change each setting later from Game Menu > Options.

If you picked Classic and now want objective areas on the map, turn the quest guidance setting back on. Blizzard does not say which menu holds the switch. During the beta, players on the official forums said the objective areas ("quest blobs") could be turned off from the world map's own menu. One player said there was no option to hide quest pickup markers on the minimap. Beta players also reported that new-quest "!" markers showed on the minimap but not on the world map. All of these are player reports from September and may no longer match the live client.

What the built-in quest tracker does

Blizzard's starter guide says accepting a quest adds it to your Quest Log and shows its objectives on screen. Tracked quests show progress as you play, and a question mark above an NPC means a finished quest is ready to hand in. If the tracker gets crowded, open the quest log and untrack quests you are not working on. The guide also warns that at some point not every quest will fit in the tracker.

The beta development notes added more. On October 8, quest types started showing as text in the Quest Log, Quest Tracker and quest dialogue, and quest level requirements started showing in the tracker. The same notes added map markers to several individual quests, such as "The Principal Source" and "Plundering the Plunderers".

Quest log limit

Blizzard has not published the maximum quest log size for Forever. In an official forum thread on October 3, a beta player wrote about "the ability to have 40 quests now", but this is a player report, not a confirmed number. The October 1 development notes fixed a bug that stopped escort quests from starting "if their quest log contained 25 or more quests". That suggests the log holds more than 25. If your log is full, the starter guide's advice is simple: abandon quests you no longer need.

Questie for Forever: status and common bugs

Questie's regular releases now include Forever support. Its GitHub release notes show version 12.6.0 on November 4, followed by 12.6.1, 12.6.2 and 12.6.3. Version 12.6.4 came out on November 7. QuestieDB 1.0.11 and 1.0.12 both list "[Forever] Update all databases". Version 12.6.4 fixed lag spikes when quest icons unload from the world map, "secret value" errors when clicking chat links in instances, and a menu bug that hid all available quests from the minimap. Version 12.6.2 added a "Blizzard" objective style, so Questie can draw objectives like the built-in markers.

If Questie seems bugged, update first. Some problems are still open on the project's GitHub. On November 8 these included a missing Alliance quest ("A Simmering Storm") and a "secret aura taint" error on level-up that was still happening in 12.6.4. Remember that some bugs come from the game, not the addon. Blizzard disabled "Vorsha the Lasher" in Ashenvale on November 5 because it crashed the client. The November 6 hotfix notes list a fix for the same quest.

Should you install Questie at all? Players in the official forum thread "Do I not need the Questie addon?" were split. One pointed out that Questie shows available quests, while the base game shows them only on the minimap and only nearby. Our WoW Forever addons list tracks which Forever builds exist, and the Questie and RestedXP setup guide covers installation.

Quest items and auto accept

We found no source confirming that the Forever client highlights or adds a sparkle to quest items. Addons fill the gap:

  • Forever Quest Items adds quest information to item tooltips, including which quests use the item and your progress on them. It needs QuestieDB. Its CurseForge page calls it a beta and warns that some new or changed Forever quests may be missing.
  • Forever Quest Tint (0.7.2, November 8) does not highlight items. It tints the quest window and adds a marker to quests that were not in original Classic. That helps you find the ones listed on our new quests page.
  • Leatrix Plus has a Forever file (1.60.29-forever, November 6). Its description includes "Pick up and hand in quests automatically". Install the file ending in -forever.

Frequently asked questions

Does WoW Forever have a built-in quest helper?

Yes. The world map shows quest markers and objective areas, and the minimap points toward nearby objectives. These are on by default only with the Enhanced preset.

Why are quest objectives not showing on my map in WoW Forever?

You probably picked the Classic preset, which turns quest guidance off by default. You can turn it back on later in the game's options.

How many quests can you have in WoW Forever?

Blizzard has not said. Beta players reported 40. An October 1 fix for logs holding 25 or more quests suggests the limit is above 25.

Is Questie working in WoW Forever?

Yes. Questie has a Forever build with almost daily updates. Version 12.6.4 came out on November 7. A few bugs were still open on November 8.

Can WoW Forever auto accept quests?

We found no built-in option. Leatrix Plus has a Forever file that picks up and hands in quests automatically.
