MapleStory Legion guide
Legion level is the total level of your 42 best characters in one world. Each rank adds member slots, each member adds a class effect and a block on the grid. 6K fills the grid, 8K opens Legion Champion, 10K gives the Dragon Lord mount.
Rules
How Legion works
- Legion (Maple Union) = account-per-world system: characters placed as members give bonuses to all characters in the same world based on level and job; placement on Synergy Grid adds stat bonuses
- Unlock: one Lv200+ character with 5th job, OR total level 500+ across characters in the world
- Legion level = sum of levels of the 42 highest-level characters in the world; characters count from Lv60 with 2nd job; Zero counts from Lv130 and only the highest Zero counts
- Character ranks/blocks: B 60-99, A 100-139, S 140-199, SS 200-249, SSS 250+ (Zero: B 130, A 160, S 180, SS 200, SSS 250)
- Synergy Grid inner area: per square STR/DEX/INT/LUK +5, Max HP/MP +250, ATT/MATT +1 (rearrangeable); outer area (unlocks with rank, capped 40 per area): Status Resistance +1, EXP +0.25%, Crit Rate +1%, Boss Dmg +1%, Normal Monster Dmg +1%, Buff Duration +1%, IED +1%, Crit Dmg +0.5% per square
- Grid size grows with rank up to 22x20 at Heroic II (6,000) — the full grid; guides cite 6k as first target
- Legion Raid generates Legion Coins (0.7992 coins per 1M raid power per 24h; weekly quest 200 coins); coins spent at Squire Pancho Sanza shop. Unclaimed coin caps by tier: 200/300/500/900/1,300
- Rank-up coin cost: wiki says the Crown update removed coin requirement; GamesLikeFinder (Sep 2026) still lists coin costs 0..5,000 — CONFLICT
- Legion Artifact (since Dreamer / GMS v.251 Go West, June 2024): crystals give world-wide stats, leveled with Artifact EXP/points from missions; at artifact level 60: 9 crystals with 3 stats each
- Reaching total Legion level 10,000 grants permanent Dragon Lord Mount and King of Legion Chair
- Event blocks (no member slot, max 2): e.g. Ride or Die block (GMS) ATT +35; Lab server block ATT +5..25 (enhanced up to +35)
- KMS Overdrive (June 2026) replaces the grid with Legion Points (B1/A2/S3/SS4/SSS5), removes Legion Raid (effects converted to stats), opens 5th Champion slot. Wiki lists GMS date as November 11 (2026) — i.e. as of 2026-10-17 GMS still uses blocks/grid. Not confirmed by official GMS notes

Legion Champion
- Legion Champion exists in GMS (from NEXT/post-Stargazer update): register characters as Champions who solo bosses in Champion Mode to earn ranks
- Requirements: Legion level 8,000+ and at least one Lv260+ character in the world
- Starts with 2 slots; 3rd when all Champions A+; 4th when all 3 A+; GMS max currently 4 (5th slot needs all S+, arrives with Overdrive — KMS now, GMS listed Nov 11)
- One character per job; removing a Champion costs 1 billion mesos and resets its rank
- Rank evaluations (GMS per wiki): B Hard Lotus, A Hard Verus Hilla, S Hard Black Mage (45 min), SS Hard Chosen Seren, SSS Normal Kalos; 20-min limits. KMS original used Hard Suu/Hard Jin Hilla for B/A — regional difference
- Champion Insignias stack and apply to all Champions: B All Stats +20 & Max HP/MP +1,000; A ATT/MATT +10; S Boss Dmg +5%; SS Crit Dmg +3%; SSS IED +5%

Legion FAQ
How is Legion level calculated?
It is the sum of the levels of the 42 highest-level characters in one world. Characters count from level 60 with their 2nd job; Zero counts from level 130 and only one Zero counts.
What does 8K Legion mean?
A Legion level of 8,000 or more: rank Legendary I with 36 member slots. Together with a level 260+ character it unlocks Legion Champion.
What does 10K Legion mean?
Legion level 10,000, rank Legendary V with 40 member slots. Reaching it also gives the permanent Dragon Lord mount and the King of Legion chair.
How big is each Legion block?
It grows with the character’s level: 1 square at 60–99, 2 at 100–139, 3 at 140–199, 4 at 200–249 and 5 at 250 and above.
What is Legion Champion?
A system where registered characters solo bosses in Champion Mode to earn ranks; each rank adds a bonus to all Champions. It needs Legion 8,000 and a level 260+ character.
Is Legion changing in 2026?
In Korea, the Overdrive update (June 2026) replaced the grid with Legion Points and removed Legion Raid. The MapleStory Wiki lists 11 November 2026 for GMS; Nexon’s GMS notes had not confirmed it when we checked.
