Will GTA 6 Have Online? Release Date, GTA Online and GTA+

GTA 6 will not have an online mode at launch: Rockstar calls the game "a single-player experience," and it ships on 19 November 2026 without multiplayer. A GTA 6 Online has not been announced and has no release date, while the existing GTA Online on GTA V keeps running.

The PlayStation Store answers "Does it have multiplayer modes?" with one line: "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience." The Xbox listing shows "Single player" and no online feature. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick repeated it at the 17 September shareholder meeting.

Will GTA 6 have online later?

Almost certainly, but it is not official. Rockstar has not announced a GTA 6 online mode, a name for it, a format (free add-on, separate release or paid expansion) or a date. Anything more specific is a prediction.

The most credible prediction so far came from outside Rockstar. In a Bloomberg interview published 18 September, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said his team had "spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans," and expected "an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer." That points to 2027. Rockstar has not confirmed it.

The strongest hint is in Take-Two's investor messaging, not in leaks. Zelnick told shareholders there is "no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch." GTA Online earns through Shark Cards and GTA+, which is recurrent spending. A publisher expecting GTA 6 Online within weeks of launch would not tell investors that.

This is precedent, not a prediction. GTA 6 already breaks the pattern: GTA V and RDR2 both had their online modes announced before launch, and GTA 6 does not.

What happens to GTA Online on GTA V

It stays. Take-Two has said so on the record several times this year:

3 February 2026, earnings call: "I have every reason to believe we'll continue to support GTA Online."
7 August 2026, earnings call: "we expect to continue to support GTA Online going forward."
17 September 2026, shareholder meeting: Zelnick called GTA Online "a robust business" the company will keep supporting.

Rockstar's pre-order announcement even sells the free GTA+ month as "the best way to get the most out of the ever-evolving world of GTA Online," which is a GTA V product. The only time Rockstar has shut GTA Online down was the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, closed on 16 December 2021 with six months' notice, while newer versions carried on.

Will GTA Online progress transfer to GTA 6?

Not confirmed. Rockstar has said nothing about moving characters, GTA$, vehicles or properties from GTA Online into GTA 6, and there is no GTA 6 online mode yet to transfer into.

Precedent, for context: Rockstar has only ever transferred GTA Online characters between versions of the same game.

PS3 and Xbox 360 players could move to PS4, Xbox One and PC until 6 March 2017, and PS4 and Xbox One players got a one-time migration to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in March 2022. Rockstar has never carried online progress from one game into another, and Red Dead Online started everyone from zero.

GTA+ and GTA 6

GTA+ is Rockstar's subscription for GTA Online on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Enhanced). It costs $7.99 a month. Members get GTA$500,000 deposited every month, The Vinewood Club garage and perks, member-only Shark Cards with 15% bonus GTA$, and the GTA+ Games Library. Since June 2026 that library includes GTA V's story mode, alongside titles such as Red Dead Redemption, Bully and L.A. Noire.

What GTA+ does not include is GTA 6. The link is the pre-order offer:

Digital pre-orders and purchases before 20 November 2026 include one month of GTA+.
On PlayStation it must be claimed by 31 March 2027, once per account.
It renews as a paid monthly subscription unless you cancel before the renewal date.
Existing members get the month added to their current subscription.

Whether GTA+ will carry over to a future GTA 6 online mode has not been said.
