GTA 6 launches on 19 November 2026 on PS5 (with PS5 Pro enhancements) and Xbox Series X|S, and on nothing else: no PS4, no Xbox One, no PC. It is also not cross-platform, because the launch game is a single-player experience with no multiplayer to cross-play in.

Is GTA 6 cross-platform or crossplay?
No, and at launch the question does not really apply. Rockstar's pre-order announcement calls GTA 6 "a single-player experience." The PlayStation Store lists it as 1 player and answers "Does it have multiplayer modes?" with the same line. The Xbox listing shows "Single player" and no online multiplayer feature.
With no multiplayer mode, there is nothing for PS5 and Xbox players to share. Crossplay only becomes a real question if Rockstar launches a new online mode, which it has not announced. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick repeated on 17 September that GTA 6 launches "as a single player experience on two major platforms." Our GTA 6 online guide tracks what is known about that.
What history says about Rockstar and crossplay
As precedent only: GTA Online has never had crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox in more than a decade of service, and Red Dead Online did not either. Moving GTA Online characters between platforms was handled through one-time migrations, such as the PS4 and Xbox One to PS5 and Xbox Series move in March 2022, not through shared servers.
Cross-progression and cross-save
Rockstar has not announced cross-progression between PlayStation and Xbox for GTA 6. Within the Xbox family, the Microsoft Store listing shows Xbox cloud saves, so a save follows you between a Series X and a Series S. Moving a save from PS5 to Xbox, or the reverse, is unconfirmed.

GTA 6 on PS5 and PS5 Pro
The PlayStation Store lists these PS5 features: DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, Tempest 3D Audio, fast loading from the SSD, the controller speaker and Remote Play. Rockstar has also said its second trailer, from May 2025, was "captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5."
The PS5 Pro gets the "PS5 Pro Enhanced" label. Sony and Rockstar have not said what that means for GTA 6: no resolution, no frame rate and no ray tracing details. Reports that it targets 4K are based on leaked certification guidelines, not on anything Rockstar has published.
Does GTA 6 run at 60fps?
Not confirmed for any console. In late August 2026, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson told creators at a preview that the console builds were running at 30fps during development. Asked about a 60fps option, he said the technical team would need to weigh in. Treat 30fps as the baseline until Rockstar publishes final modes.
GTA 6 on Xbox Series X and Series S
Both Xbox consoles are covered by the same "Optimized for Xbox Series X|S" listing, with achievements, cloud saves and Xbox presence. The Series S is not excluded and Rockstar has not announced any cut features on it.
Expect it to run at a lower resolution than Series X, as almost every current game does. Rockstar has published no Series S resolution or frame rate figure, and claims of specific numbers (720p, 900p and so on) are analyst estimates.
The boxed copy of GTA 6 is a download code, not a disc, according to Rockstar's pre-order announcement. That makes the disc-free Xbox Series S and PS5 Digital Edition exactly as good for this game as the disc models. The disc drive buys you nothing.
Xbox Cloud Gaming
On 6 October The Verge reported an exclusive Xbox streaming deal. Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball replied on 7 October that Xbox looks forward to "launching GTAVI on XBOX November 19, though the game will not be streaming exclusively or to PC." Which cloud devices will get it, and when, has not been detailed.

Will GTA 6 come to PS4 or Xbox One?
No. Sony's own FAQ is explicit: "Grand Theft Auto VI will only be playable on PlayStation 5 consoles. It will not be available for PlayStation 4 consoles." Xbox One is absent from every Rockstar and Microsoft listing. No backport has been announced or hinted at.
If you are still on PS4 or Xbox One, the realistic upgrade paths are a PS5 Digital Edition or an Xbox Series S, since the game ships as a download and no disc drive is needed. Our GTA 6 launch guide covers what else to sort out before 19 November.
