Rockstar has not announced an official unlock time for GTA 6, but PlayStation Store listings in 63 regions show it unlocking at midnight local time on Thursday 19 November 2026. In the United States that means midnight Eastern, which is 9 PM Pacific on Wednesday 18 November, and New Zealand gets it first, about 19 hours earlier.

The date itself is official. Rockstar set 19 November 2026 on 6 November 2025, and Take-Two repeated it in its 7 August 2026 earnings release. The hour is the part that comes from store data rather than from Rockstar, and Vice notes the listed times "are subject to change".
What time GTA 6 unlocks in your region
The table converts each region's listed midnight into UTC and US Eastern time. Rows marked "store listing" come from the PlayStation Store times Vice reported on 7 September 2026. Central Europe is our conversion based on the same local midnight pattern.

Why the US West Coast plays on Wednesday
"Midnight local" means midnight in the store region's main time zone, not on your own clock. The US store unlocks at midnight Eastern for everyone, so players elsewhere in the country start earlier in their own evening:
- Eastern: 12:00 AM Thursday 19 November
- Central: 11:00 PM Wednesday 18 November
- Mountain: 10:00 PM Wednesday 18 November
- Pacific: 9:00 PM Wednesday 18 November
US daylight saving time ends on 1 November, so all of these are standard time.
Xbox Series X|S
Vice's report covers PlayStation only. Xbox Store regional listings have not been published as a full table, and Rockstar has not confirmed Xbox timing. We will add Xbox times here as soon as they are verifiable.
Digital vs physical: who plays first
This launch is unusual. Rockstar's pre-order announcement says the physical version contains "a download code inside the box" and will be available from 12 November 2026 "to support pre-loading". There is no disc.
- Digital pre-order: preload from 12 November, play the moment your region unlocks.
- Physical box bought in a shop: on sale from 12 November. Redeem the code, preload, and you are in the same position as digital buyers.
- Physical box shipped by an online retailer: you cannot preload until the code arrives. A late parcel means a late start.
A midnight queue for GTA 6 buys you nothing. Because the box only holds a code that works from 12 November, the person who picks it up a week early is ready at unlock; the person queueing at midnight on the 19th still has to download the whole game.
Are there midnight launches?
Not officially, as of 9 October. We found no company announcement from GameStop or other major chains about midnight events, only social media posts citing individual store staff. Some retailers have also declined to stock the code-in-a-box edition, according to reporting summarised on Wikipedia.
Compare that with GTA V. Take-Two said more than 8,300 stores in North America opened at midnight for its 17 September 2013 launch, and the game passed $800 million in first day sales worldwide.
How Rockstar handled past launches (precedent)
These are earlier Rockstar games, listed as precedent only. They show the pattern GTA 6 is following.

The seven day preload window is identical to RDR2's. The shift is from retail to download: GTA V was a midnight queue event, and GTA 6 is a download with a timer.
The New Zealand method
Because PlayStation unlocks by region, some players plan to buy on a New Zealand PlayStation account and play from 6 AM Eastern on 18 November. Vice says this "should technically work" for GTA 6, but it needs a separate regional account and a separate purchase from that store. Your progress would sit on that second account.
Launch week checklist
- Pre-order digitally, or plan to collect the box on or after 12 November.

What time does GTA 6 come out?
PlayStation Store listings show midnight local time on 19 November 2026. In the US that is 12 AM ET, 9 PM PT on 18 November. In the UK it is midnight GMT. Rockstar has not officially confirmed the hour.
Does GTA 6 unlock at the same time worldwide?
No. Store listings show a staggered release across about 19 hours, starting in New Zealand at 11:00 UTC on 18 November and ending in Mexico at 06:00 UTC on 19 November.
Can I play GTA 6 early if I preload?
No. Preloading from 12 November only downloads the game. It stays locked until your store region's unlock time on 19 November.
Do physical GTA 6 copies unlock earlier?
No. The box contains a download code, not a disc, so it unlocks at the same moment as the digital version. The code is usable from 12 November for preloading.
Is GTA 6 coming out at midnight in stores?
No major retailer has announced midnight events as of 9 October 2026. Since the box is on sale from 12 November, there is little reason to wait for midnight on the 19th.
