Is The Division 2 Worth It in 2026? Content, DLC and Grind

October 11, 2026·METAMMO Team

Yes, The Division 2 is worth playing in 2026: it has a full campaign, two story DLCs, two raids, the Summit, Countdown and the Descent roguelike, and Ubisoft is still shipping seasons, with Echoes of Central Park and crossplay both arriving in November 2026 and Year 9 confirmed. The catch is the endgame grind, which is long and front-loaded for new agents.

What you get for your money

Seven years of updates have stacked a lot of content on top of the original Washington, D.C. campaign. Most of it is included in the base game; the two New York story expansions are paid.

For a solo player that is a long runway before you even touch the hardest difficulties. The open world rewards exploration, and the Summit and Descent scale to small groups, so you are not locked out of endgame activities without a clan.

Is the game still being updated?

Yes, and 2026 is one of its busier years. Year 8 Season 1, Rise Up, arrived in April and introduced Prototype gear, where the old maximum attribute value becomes the new minimum and the new maximum can reach 1.5 times higher.

Rise Up's free season track included the Agitator exotic weapon and the Investor exotic mask. Season 3, Red Horizon, brought the Cleaners back to D.C. on August 27.

The rest of the year is set:

  • November 3: Echoes of Central Park, a paid DLC with companions, a new map and a replayable endgame. See our Echoes of Central Park guide.
  • November: crossplay across PC, PlayStation and Xbox, with clans growing from 50 to 100 members.
  • Later in 2026: closed test sign-ups for The Division 2: Survivors, a winter survival mode with PvE or PvP sessions.
  • Year 9: confirmed by Ubisoft, with details promised for Division Day in March.
A game that announces Year 9 alongside a new DLC is not winding down. The real risk for a new player is not the servers going dark, it is joining at the point where veterans have seven years of exotics, Expertise and Prototype builds and you have none.

The downsides you should know about

Player threads asking "is this worth buying in 2026" on the Steam forums agree on the same weak points. The campaign gets praise, the endgame gets criticism:

  • The grind after level 40. SHD levels, Expertise up to 30 and now Prototype cores stack on top of each other, and players describe the menus as confusing at first. Our progression guide breaks each system down.
  • Technical bugs. Players report missing weapon or skill sounds, periodic stutter and Delta-03 connection errors.
  • Build knowledge. Endgame content assumes you know gear sets, brand bonuses and exotic talents. Seasonal changes, such as the Red Horizon rework of the Determined talent, can invalidate a build overnight.
  • No cross-save. Crossplay arrives in November, but progress stays on the platform where you earned it.

Echoes of Central Park$19.99 Standard, $29.99 DeluxeAnyone planning to play from November

Warlords of New York is the expansion that raised the level cap to 40, and much of the modern endgame is built around it, so a base game only copy is a trial rather than the full experience.

The Division 2 goes on deep discount often, and one Steam reply calls it the best deal in gaming on sale, and in October 2026 the Ubisoft Store had the New York DLC Bundle at 70% off, so check sales before paying list price.

Who should skip the grind

Returning players and newcomers aiming at raids or the new Central Park loop face the same wall: Expertise, Exotic Components and several working builds. That is the gap a finished account closes.

Buyers usually look for Expertise 30, raid and incursion exotics like Eagle Bearer, Ravenous or Ouroboros, and Prototype builds. Our Division 2 buying guide lists what to check, and the Division 2 hub tracks prices and exotics.

Factor that in, and always confirm you get full access to the email on the Ubisoft account.

If that trade-off makes sense for you, Division 2 accounts with Expertise and exotics let you start on endgame content right away.

Frequently asked questions

Is The Division 2 still active in 2026?

Yes. Year 8 seasons ran through 2026, Echoes of Central Park launches November 3, crossplay arrives in November and Ubisoft has confirmed a Year 9.

Is The Division 2 good for solo players?

Yes. The campaigns, open world, Descent and the Summit all work solo, and Echoes of Central Park adds AI companions. Raids still need a group of eight.

How long does The Division 2 take to beat?

The campaigns take dozens of hours, but endgame progression through SHD levels, Expertise and Prototype gear has no real finish line.

Do I need Warlords of New York in 2026?

For the full endgame, yes. It raised the level cap to 40 and holds much of the modern content. The Ultimate Edition and New York DLC Bundle include it.

Does The Division 2 have crossplay?

From November 2026, yes, across PC, PlayStation and Xbox. There is no cross-save, so your progress stays on its original platform.

Is The Division 3 coming?

Ubisoft has said The Division 3 is in development but has not announced a release date. The Division 2 continues with Year 9.
