WoW Forever Dual Spec: Level 40 for Now, Earlier Unlock Discussed

NewsOctober 15, 2026·METAMMO Team

Dual specialization in WoW: Forever is set to unlock at level 40, but Blizzard is discussing an earlier level. On the third WoW: Forever Podcast, released October 8, 2026, Josh Greenfield said the team is still debating the right level and floated 30 as a possibility, without committing to it.

What Blizzard said

The topic came up while the developers discussed tanks, and whether a tank should need a separate talent build just to run dungeons. Greenfield pointed to dual spec as part of the answer and said it comes online at level 40 for now.

He then added that the team is talking about where it should actually unlock, and joked about "a cheeky thirty." Wowhead, which reported the remark, stresses that this is a tease, not an announcement.

The deep dives also describe the talent structure: milestone talents at 11, 21 and 31 points, plus a new 16-point milestone. Our talents hub and the talent trees guide cover the trees in detail.

What is not known yet

Blizzard has not said how much dual spec will cost, whether switching needs a trainer or works anywhere, or how Legacy talents interact with a second spec. Treat any specific gold price or cast time you see quoted as a guess unless it comes from Blizzard.

The beta cannot answer these questions yet. The beta cap is 30, so a level 40 unlock is out of reach for testers. During the beta, respecs cost 1 silver, and the development notes mark that price as beta only.

Why an earlier unlock matters

Hybrid classes feel this most. A Warrior, Paladin, Druid, Shaman or Priest often wants a damage build for questing and a tank or healer build for groups. Blizzard has also reworked dungeon experience on the beta, so groups between 30 and 40 are a real part of leveling.

With dual spec at 30, a player could quest efficiently and still fill a role in mid-level dungeons such as City of Dalaran or The Drowned City without paying for respecs. At 40, the same player either respecs at a trainer or levels in a group spec.

If you are planning a hybrid, compare the class overviews before launch. For how long the climb to 40 takes, our leveling hub collects the latest beta numbers.

When we might learn more

WoW: Forever launches on November 4, 2026, and the beta runs through October 21. Blizzard posts regular development notes and podcast episodes, so an answer may arrive there. We will update this page when the unlock level is final.
