Mobile Legends esports: MPL, MSC and the M-series
Mobile Legends is one of the most-watched esports in the world, built on national leagues in Southeast Asia and two big international events a year: the Mid Season Cup in summer and the M-series World Championship in winter.
Updated 30 October 2026 for Season 42, patch 2.2.16a (October 2026).
Leagues and events
How the circuit is structured
The professional season is built from regional leagues, the MPLs (Mobile Legends Professional Leagues), that send their best teams to international tournaments. For 2026 Moonton announced a five-region structure for MLBB esports: Southeast Asia (SEA), Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA), Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), East Asia (EA) and the Americas (AMER). MPL Indonesia, MPL Philippines and MPL Malaysia remain the flagship Southeast Asian leagues; MPL Malaysia runs as an eight-team partnership league in 2026.
| Event | When | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| MPL seasons | Spring and autumn splits | National and regional leagues |
| Mid Season Cup (MSC) | Summer, at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh | International cup for top league teams |
| M-series World Championship | December to January | The world championship |
History
M-series World Championship winners

M7 ran from 3 to 25 January 2026 in Jakarta with 22 teams and a US$1 million prize pool. Aurora Gaming PH swept Alter Ego Esports of Indonesia 4-0 in the grand final, the sixth world title for a Philippine team in a row. At M6, Fnatic ONIC Philippines beat Team Liquid Indonesia 4-1.

MSC 2026 at the Esports World Cup in August 2026 was a turning point: Team Spirit became the first team from Eastern Europe and Central Asia to win a major international MLBB trophy, and none of the three big Southeast Asian leagues reached the grand final. The event set a peak of 2.88 million concurrent viewers, the highest of any tournament at EWC 2026.

M8 World Championship
M8 is planned for January 2027 in Türkiye and Thailand, with the final stage in Istanbul: the first M-series event held in Europe. With MSC 2026 won by an EECA team, M8 is expected to be the most open world championship so far.

How to follow and learn from pro play
- Watch the draft. Pro bans show which heroes are strongest in the current patch.
- Watch the jungler’s first two minutes. Pro routes and Turtle setups are the most copyable part of pro play.
- Watch one player’s view. Many broadcasts and replays let you follow one hero; pick the player in your role.
- Do not copy pro builds blindly. Pro teams coordinate in ways solo queue does not.
Draft and macro concepts are covered in the draft guide and the macro guide.
MPL
The main leagues
| League | Region | Note |
|---|---|---|
| MPL Indonesia (MPL ID) | Southeast Asia | One of the most-watched MLBB leagues |
| MPL Philippines (MPL PH) | Southeast Asia | Home of six straight M-series champions (M2 to M7) |
| MPL Malaysia (MPL MY) | Southeast Asia | Eight-team partnership league in 2026 |
| EECA competitions | Eastern Europe and Central Asia | Team Spirit won MSC 2026 |
| Other regions | EMEA, East Asia, Americas | Part of the 2026 five-region structure |
Teams qualify for MSC and the M-series through their league results. League formats, team counts and qualification slots change from year to year; Moonton announces them before each season.
From stage to solo queue
How pro play shapes ranked
Heroes that dominate MPL and international events tend to get nerfed in the following patches, and pro strategies spread into high-rank solo queue within weeks. Following the pro scene is therefore a good way to anticipate balance changes. Pro play also popularises roles and habits, such as jungle routes and Turtle setups, that solo players copy.
The pro meta and the solo queue meta are not the same: coordinated teams make heroes like Mathilda or Fredrinn stronger than they are in random teams. Use pro drafts to learn ideas, not as a tier list.
Format
How international events are played
International MLBB events usually start with a group or Swiss stage and end with a double-elimination or single-elimination bracket. Matches use the full ten-ban draft. Early rounds are best-of-three; the grand final is a best-of-seven, which is why final scores such as 4-0 and 4-3 appear. Teams can usually change sides and adjust drafts between games, so a series often turns on adaptations made after the first loss.
| Stage | Format |
|---|---|
| Wildcard or play-in | Teams from smaller regions qualify for the main event |
| Group or Swiss stage | Best-of-one or best-of-three |
| Playoffs | Best-of-five or best-of-three, depending on the event |
| Grand final | Best-of-seven |
Exact formats change every year and are announced before each event, so check the official tournament page for M8.
Context
Why Mobile Legends esports is so big
Mobile Legends is the dominant MOBA in Southeast Asia, especially in Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia, where phones are the main gaming platform. Its esports grew out of that player base: national leagues with stadium finals, star players with large followings and a world championship that regularly sets mobile esports viewership records. Moving MSC into the Esports World Cup and M8 to Türkiye are steps towards a wider global audience.
For new viewers
Following teams and players
Most MPL broadcasts are streamed on official MLBB esports channels in several languages, with archives of every series. New viewers learn fastest by following one team through a season, so the rosters and storylines become familiar. Teams from the Philippines and Indonesia have the deepest histories; Team Spirit’s MSC 2026 run and Yangon Galacticos reaching the same final show how quickly new regions are catching up.
- Pick a team from your region or the current champions and follow one league split.
- Watch the draft segment with commentary for every game you watch.
- Compare pro builds with your own and note one difference per series.
