Step by step

Six steps after delivery

  1. 1Sign in to the EA AccountUse the email, login and password from your ticket at ea.com (Account settings). Apex progress lives on this EA Account, not on Steam, PlayStation or Xbox.
  2. 2Change the emailPut your own email on the account. EA may ask to verify your identity when you change email, phone or password; our support is in the ticket while you do it.
  3. 3Change the passwordA new, unique password that you do not use anywhere else.
  4. 4Turn on two-factor authenticationIn Security, choose email, an authenticator app or text message as the verification method. An authenticator app makes codes on your phone, without email or SMS.
  5. 5Save the backup codesEA shows backup codes once two-factor is on. They are the only way in from a new device if you lose your verification method. Store them offline.
  6. 6Check linked accountsIn Connections, see which Steam, PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo accounts are linked. Do not unlink the platform you play on: unlinking cuts it off from the Apex progress on the EA Account.

Security FAQ

How do I secure an Apex Legends account after buying it?

Sign in to the EA Account, put your own email on it, change the password, turn on two-factor authentication (an authenticator app is best) and save the backup codes. Then check the linked platforms in Connections and keep the one you play on linked: Apex progress is tied to the EA Account and cannot be moved to another.

Where is Apex Legends progress stored?

On the EA Account. EA says Apex progress is permanently tied to the EA Account and cannot be moved to another one, which is why full access to the EA Account is what you need when you buy.

What happens if I unlink Steam or PlayStation from the EA Account?

That platform loses access to the progress and content on the EA Account until it is linked back. Linking the platform to a different EA Account does not bring the progress with it.

Which two-factor method is best?

An authenticator app: codes are made on your phone and do not depend on email or SMS. Save the backup codes as soon as you turn it on.
