Calculated from EA’s published rate, ignoring the guarantee. Most players therefore get their shards from the 500th pack, not from luck. Levelling an account from 1 to 500 gives 199 packs, so one guaranteed set needs a long way past level 500 or many Battle Pass and bought packs on top.

Events that gave shards
- The 5th Anniversary collection event (February 2024) gave 150 shards for collecting every item.
- The Winter’s Haunt milestone event (December 2024) had 150 shards on its milestone track.
- Anniversary events have included shards in their reward sets at times; check each event’s EA post, since not every one does.

In the Mythic store you choose any heirloom set or Prestige skin you do not own, for 150 shards each. Every heirloom and Prestige skin is listed with its date. An account that already has several of them saves the packs: see buying vs grinding.

How do you get Heirloom Shards in Apex Legends?
Heirloom Shards drop as a set of 150 from Apex Packs at 0.045% per pack (EA, October 2024), with a guarantee by the 500th eligible pack; event, milestone, thematic and retro packs do not count. Some events have also given 150 shards as a completion reward. 150 shards buy one heirloom set or Prestige skin in the Mythic store; they cannot be crafted or bought with Apex Coins.
What are the odds of Heirloom Shards in an Apex Pack?
0.045% per pack, as EA published in October 2024 — about 1 in 2,222. When they drop, you get 150 shards, enough for one heirloom set or Prestige skin.
Is there a guarantee?
Yes: the 500th eligible Apex Pack without shards gives them. It only applies while you do not already own every Base Mythic and cannot already afford one. Event, collection, milestone, thematic and retro packs do not count toward it.
How much does an heirloom cost?
150 Heirloom Shards. Heirlooms cannot be bought directly with Apex Coins, and Crafting Metals cannot craft them.
Do Exotic Shards buy heirlooms?
No. Exotic Shards, added in Season 21, buy upgrades for Artifacts and Mythic items and Exotic Shop skins. Heirlooms and Prestige skins still cost Heirloom Shards.
How many Apex Packs do you get from levelling?
199 packs from level 2 to 500, and 115 more for each of the three Prestige tiers of 500 levels: 544 packs from level 1 to 2,000, according to EA and the Apex Legends Wiki.
