Kept and changed

What Classic changed from the original

  • Kept: Maple Island start, Victoria Island towns and job NPCs, Explorer jobs, Kerning PQ with King Slime, the old bosses, Free Market shops.
  • New: Crafting (6 professions), Citizenship and Housing in Henesys and Kerning City, Forgotten Hollow, the Excavation Site, the Beauty Album, Modern (WASD) keys, controllers and macOS.
  • Changed by Nexon at launch: Swordsman HP recovery and Iron Body raised, Magician MP recovery raised, Dark Sight visible to all as semi-transparent, Megaphones at level 15.
  • No stat requirements for job advancement (e.g. a 4-INT Beginner can become a Warrior) (community)
  • Rush moved into 2nd job for Fighter, Page and Spearman (launch: 15 MP at max, 6 targets, 2s cooldown); Power Guard moved to 3rd job (Crusader/White Knight); Hyper Body stays Dragon Knight only (community)
  • All 2nd-job Final Attack skills cut from 50% to 25% proc chance between COT2 and launch (community)
  • Slash Blast hits up to 6 mobs (was 4 in COT2); Iron Arrow 4->6 targets; Cleric Holy Arrow 3 targets/60 -> 1 target/160; Bandit Steal buff 30->60s (community)
  • Haste weaker than 2008 version: +30 Speed/+10 Jump vs +40/+20 (community)
  • Cleric Heal damage considerably lower than pre-Big Bang (community)
  • HP washing removed: per-level HP/MP gain is fixed per class, no INT scaling (based on COT1 data, may differ at launch) (community)
  • Max HP Increase gives an immediate % of base Max HP instead of a flat per-level bonus; base HP raised for all classes (community)
  • Ranged classes shoot at point-blank range instead of the old melee swing; claw punching still exists for thieves (community)
  • 2nd-job SP cannot be spent on 1st-job skills; AP Reset and SP Reset Scrolls cost 7,000 NX each (Cash Shop) (community)
  • Pirates and the Nautilus start area are not in the initial release (community)

Answers

Differences FAQ

How is MapleStory Classic different from regular MapleStory?

Classic World is a separate, slow old-school MapleStory with four Explorer jobs, a level cap of 100 and only Maple Island and Victoria Island, while modern MapleStory (GMS, including the Heroic worlds that replaced Reboot) has 50+ classes, level 300 and twenty years of content. They share your Nexon account and NX balance, nothing else.

Is MapleStory Classic the same as old MapleStory?

No. Nexon says it is not a 1:1 recreation: it keeps the pre-Big Bang feel, slow levels and manual stats, but rebalances skills, adds Crafting, Citizenship and Housing, and will add content in its own order.

Is MapleStory Classic better than Reboot?

They suit different players. Classic is slow, social and party-driven with four jobs; modern MapleStory’s Heroic worlds (the old Reboot) are fast and endgame-focused with 50+ classes.

Can I move characters from MapleStory to Classic World?

No. Characters, names and items are separate; only the NX balance is shared. Challenger World characters cannot be transferred either.

Is Classic World a private server?

No. Classic World is run by Nexon itself on its Global service, through the Nexon Launcher and Steam.
