Every character starts as a Beginner on Maple Island. Talk to every NPC: island quests are faster than grinding here. The boat to Lith Harbor is one-way, so finish the island first.

Lv 101st job advancement
Talk to Dances with Balrog in Perion (Warrior), Grendel the Really Old in Ellinia (Magician), Athena Pierce in Henesys (Bowman) or Dark Lord in Kerning City (Thief). Classic World has no stat requirement for the advancement.

Back to the same NPC. Community guides describe the test: a letter to the job instructor, 30 Dark Marbles from the test map, traded for The Proof of a Hero. Keep space in the Use inventory: before v1.0.0 the quest could fail and remove the item when it was full.

Lv 10+Crafting apprentice quests
Six crafting NPCs: Silas Irons (Smithing), Mr. Thunder (Weaponcrafting), Francois (Tailoring), Vicious (Woodcrafting), JM From tha Streetz (Leatherworking), Chrishrama (Arcforge). Crafting more raises the skill and opens recipes.

Lv 12+Citizenship and Community Board
Become a citizen of Henesys (Arthur, Town Hall) or Kerning City (Roxy, Civic Center). Requests on the town’s Community Board earn Contribution toward your Citizenship grade; from the Visitor grade you can buy a house.
Lv 21+Kerning City Party Quest “First Time Together”
Talk to Lakelis in Kerning City; Channels 3–12. Puzzles, monsters and King Slime. The one-time quest Proof of Companionship rewards the first King Slime kill (community data).

Lv 10+The Journey Begins (event)
Daily check-in with the Maple Administrator until 18 November: collect 30 Maple Leaves from monsters for each day’s reward, from a Snail pet and potions to Safety Charms and Store Permits.
Lv 25+The Marks We Leave Behind (event)
Talk to Jay in Henesys and follow the clues across Victoria Island to the Mark of the Beta, until 18 November.
Lv 10+Halloween Candies (event)
From 28 October: collect 100 Halloween Candies for Malady in Henesys or Kerning City, then the hidden mission for the Pumpkin Basket (one-handed sword, +27 Weapon Attack).

How do you do the 2nd job advancement in MapleStory Classic?
At level 30, go back to the NPC who gave you 1st job (Dances with Balrog in Perion, Grendel the Really Old in Ellinia, Athena Pierce in Henesys or Dark Lord in Kerning City) and choose your 2nd job. Community guides describe the test: take the letter to the job instructor, collect 30 Dark Marbles and trade them for The Proof of a Hero, then return.
What level is 1st job in MapleStory Classic?
Level 10 for every class, Magician included. Community databases report no stat requirement.
My 2nd job quest failed and the item disappeared
Before the 21 October patch the advancement could fail and remove the quest item when the Use inventory had no free slots. Nexon fixed it in v1.0.0; keep a free Use slot anyway.
What events are running in MapleStory Classic?
The Journey Begins (daily check-in) and The Marks We Leave Behind run until 18 November 2026; Halloween Candies and Orange Slimes from 28 October to 18 November; GM events on 22 October, 6 November and 19 December.
Where is the Kerning City Party Quest?
Talk to Lakelis in Kerning City at level 21 or above, in a party, on Channels 3 to 12.
