Mobile Legends assassin guide
Assassins exist to kill one important enemy before the fight starts. A good assassin decides the match with patience; a bad one dives first, dies first and leaves the team playing four against five.
Updated 30 October 2026 for Season 42, patch 2.2.16a (October 2026).
The job
What an assassin is for
Assassins have high burst damage and mobility, very little health, and almost no crowd control. Most of them play the jungle, where they farm camps, take buffs and Turtle, and appear in lanes to kill exposed enemies. Their value is greatest in the first ten minutes, when enemy carries have few defensive items.
- Pick off carries. The enemy marksman and mage are the targets. The tank is almost never a target.
- Punish bad positions. An enemy who walks alone into your jungle is your farm.
- Secure objectives. The jungler holds Retribution and is responsible for the last hit on Turtle and Lord.
Hero pool
Assassins worth learning in Season 42
| Hero | Identity | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| Saber | Locks on to one target with his ultimate; simple and reliable | Easy |
| Karina | Resets on kills, very strong clean-up | Easy |
| Natalia | Invisible in bushes, silences | Easy |
| Hayabusa | Shadows to teleport; untargetable ultimate | Medium |
| Helcurt | Silences, and his ultimate darkens the enemies’ view | Medium |
| Lancelot | Dashes and invulnerable frames; high outplay potential | Hard |
| Gusion | Dagger combos for magic burst | Hard |
| Aamon | Invisible approach, shard stacks for burst | Medium |
| Ling | Walks on walls, huge mobility | Very hard |
| Fanny | Steel cables between walls; the hardest hero to master | Very hard |
| Hirara | The newest assassin, released June 2026, a jungler | Medium; nerfed in 2.2.16a |
Season 42 notes: patch 2.2.16a (14 October 2026) nerfed Hirara, the newest hero. Hanzo, Joy, Nolan, Yin and Benedetta are other assassins with dedicated players. Learn Saber or Karina first, then one of the high-mobility heroes.
Who to kill
Choosing a target
- The enemy marksman. Without them, the enemy has no late game and no fast turret damage.
- The enemy mage. Mages carry much of the crowd control and burst.
- The enemy support. A healer like Estes or Floryn can undo your team’s damage.
- Anyone isolated. A single enemy farming alone in a side lane, whatever their role.
Do not dive the tank, and do not dive a fighter who has full health. If the only reachable enemies are durable, wait. An assassin who does nothing for ten seconds and then kills the marksman beats one who does damage to the tank for ten seconds and dies.
Patience is the skill
Timing the dive
- Wait for the enemy’s crowd control to be used. If the enemy tank or mage has just used their stun on your teammate, the carry is unprotected.
- Look for flash and cleanse. An enemy marksman with Flicker or Purify available will escape your burst. Count battle spells, especially early.
- Enter from fog. Approach through bushes and unwarded jungle, never down the lane where you are visible from far away.
- Have an exit. Before you dive, know how you will leave: a second dash, a reset on kill, or a wall to walk over.
Early pressure
Ganking lanes from the jungle
A gank is a surprise attack on a lane. The best gank targets are lanes where the enemy has pushed far forward, where your ally has crowd control and where the enemy has used their escape. Before level 4, ganks rarely work without an ally’s stun. From level 4, with your ultimate, almost any overextended laner is a target.
| Check | Good sign | Bad sign |
|---|---|---|
| Enemy position | Past the middle of the lane | Under their own turret |
| Ally | Has crowd control and health | Low HP or no skills |
| Enemy spells | Flicker used recently | Flicker and Purify available |
| Enemy jungler | Seen on the other side of the map | Not seen for 30 seconds |
After a successful gank, take the next objective: the turret of that lane, the enemy buff nearby, or the Turtle if it is up. See jungle routes and objective timers.
Build, Season 42
Assassin items, emblems and spells
| Goal | Item |
|---|---|
| Burst and chase | Hunter Strike |
| Opening from fog | Blade of the Heptaseas |
| Finisher | Blade of Despair |
| Penetration against defence | Malefic Roar |
| Magic assassins (Gusion, Aamon) | Genius Wand, Holy Crystal, Divine Glaive |
| Survival | Wind of Nature (physical) or a defensive item late |
Junglers buy boots with a jungle blessing: Ice Retribution steals movement speed, Flame Retribution steals attack and magic power, Bloody Retribution drains HP. The Assassin emblem gives penetration, attack and movement speed; Killing Spree (restores HP and gives speed after a kill) is the classic assassin talent. The battle spell is Retribution when you jungle; Flicker or Execute for the rare assassin outside the jungle.
Avoid these
The assassin mistakes that lose games
- Diving first. The assassin who opens a team fight eats every enemy skill. Wait for your tank.
- Farming while objectives die. A jungler with perfect farm and no Turtle is behind.
- Taking every kill. Let a lane ally take the kill when it does not cost you anything; a fed marksman is worth more late than a fed assassin.
- Hunting a target who is not there. If the enemy carry is under their turret with a healer, go take the enemy buff instead.
- Invading without knowing where the enemy jungler is. Count their camps: if their buff is still up, they have not been there yet.
- Building only damage against a team with heavy crowd control. One defensive item or Purify keeps you alive long enough to deliver your burst.
Practice plan
Learning a new assassin
Start in a custom or A.I. match to learn the combo and the clear route without pressure. Then play Classic, where the jungle route, the first Turtle and your first gank are what you practise. Move to ranked only after you can do a clean full clear to level 4 before 2:00 and land your combo on a moving target. For high-mobility heroes such as Ling, Fanny and Lancelot, expect a long learning curve: dozens of matches before the hero becomes reliable.
| Milestone | Sign you have it |
|---|---|
| Clear route | Level 4 before the first Turtle, without losing much HP |
| Combo | You land the full combo on a moving target most of the time |
| Gank timing | Your ganks succeed more often than they fail |
| Objective control | You are at the Turtle and Lord pits when they spawn |
Answers
Mobile Legends assassin guide: FAQ
What is the easiest assassin in Mobile Legends?
Saber and Karina. Saber’s ultimate locks on to the target, and Karina resets her skills on kills.
Who should an assassin kill first?
The enemy marksman, then the mage, then a healing support. Avoid the tank.
Do assassins need Retribution?
When they jungle, yes. Retribution is required for the jungle blessings and for securing Turtle and Lord.
Why do assassins fall off late?
Late in the match carries buy defensive items and grouped teams protect them. Assassins then need perfect timing to find a kill.
