Mobile Legends emblems and battle spells

Before every match you choose two things that stay fixed for the whole game: an emblem and a battle spell. Both are small, and both lose matches when they are wrong.

Updated 30 October 2026 for Season 42, patch 2.2.16a (October 2026).

Emblem sets

How emblems work

Since the June 2023 revamp, emblems are seven sets: one general set and one for each role. Each set gives fixed base stats, and you pick talents from three tiers; the talents you choose must come from the emblem you have equipped. Emblems are upgraded with emblem fragments from tasks and events, so a levelled emblem gives slightly stronger stats.

Talents

Core talents by role

The talents of the first two tiers are mostly stats and utility, such as movement speed in the jungle and river (Wilderness Blessing). The third tier holds the core talents that define a build. Exact values change with patches; names and functions below are current as of October 2026.

Battle spells

All twelve battle spells

As of Season 42 there are twelve battle spells. Each is an active ability with a long cooldown that you choose before the match. Unlock levels and exact cooldowns vary; the in-game spell screen has the current numbers.

Decision

Choosing a spell: three questions

  1. Are you jungling? Then Retribution, no exceptions.
  2. What kills you? Crowd control → Purify. Burst from range → Flicker. Divers in melee → Vengeance or Aegis.
  3. What does your hero lack? No escape → Flicker. No team-fight control → Petrify. Weak finishing → Execute or Flameshot.

Avoid these

Common mistakes

  • Killing Spree on a tank jungler.
  • Two players with Retribution.
  • Purify on a hero that the enemy can only burst, not stun.
  • Keeping the same emblem for every hero.
  • Forgetting to change the emblem after switching roles in draft.

These are starting points rather than fixed rules. Swap the spell to answer the enemy draft, and swap the talent when the matchup calls for sustain instead of damage. Our role guides cover the reasoning: tank, fighter, assassin, mage, marksman and support.

Progression

Upgrading emblems

Emblem levels add base stats, so a fully upgraded emblem is a small but permanent advantage. Fragments come from daily tasks, the battle pass, events and some shop items. Upgrade the emblem for your main role first, then the Basic Common emblem, which covers off-role picks and some junglers.

Adapting to the draft

When to change your setup

Most players set an emblem and spell once per hero and never change them. The best players look at the enemy draft before every match and adjust. Three common adjustments cover most situations:

Adjustments by enemy draft
Enemy hasChange
Several stuns or a suppressPurify instead of Flicker on your carry
A fed-in-lane bullyA sustain talent such as Brave Smite on fighters
Divers and assassinsAegis or Vengeance on squishy heroes, defensive talents
Tanky frontlinePenetration talents and Execute on finishers

You can save several emblem presets per hero. Set up one for a normal match and one for the most common problem matchup, so changing takes a second in the pre-match screen.

Quick reference

Emblem and spell terms in brief

  • Adaptive attack / penetration: becomes physical or magic depending on which your hero has more of.
  • Hybrid defence: physical and magic defence together.
  • Hybrid lifesteal: heals from both basic attacks and skills.
  • Core talent: the third-tier talent that defines the emblem build.
  • Unlock level: some battle spells open as the account levels up; new accounts start with fewer.
