Mobile Legends marksman guide
The marksman is the slowest hero to come online and the strongest when it does. Your job is to survive the first ten minutes, reach your items, and then kill turrets and tanks that nobody else can.
Updated 30 October 2026 for Season 42, patch 2.2.16a (October 2026).
The job
What a marksman does
Marksmen deal sustained physical damage from range, mostly with basic attacks. That damage needs items: a marksman with one item is weak, with three items is the most dangerous hero on the map. Marksmen also destroy turrets faster than anyone else, so a team with a strong marksman ends games. Their weaknesses are low health, few escapes and dependence on the team.
- Farm. Gold lane minions and, later, safe jungle camps.
- Survive. A dead marksman has no damage. Every death delays the items that make you useful.
- Kill what is in front of you. In team fights the marksman hits the closest enemy they can safely reach, often the tank.
- Take turrets. After a won fight, the marksman’s next target is the nearest turret.
Hero pool
Marksmen worth learning in Season 42
| Hero | Damage style | Escape | Difficulty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Layla | Long-range basic attacks | None | Easy |
| Miya | Attack speed | Stealth and cleanse in the ultimate | Easy |
| Bruno | Critical hits; reworked ultimate in patch 2.2.16 | Dash | Easy |
| Brody | Heavy single hits and stacking stuns | Short dash | Medium |
| Granger | Burst bullets, almost a fighter-assassin | Dash | Medium |
| Claude | Area attack speed with his partner Dexter | Blink | Medium |
| Karrie | True damage against tanks; keeps “Lowest HP” targeting | Dash | Medium |
| Moskov | Pierces through targets | Blink | Medium |
| Wanwan | Dashes, untargetable ultimate after hitting weak points | Several dashes | Hard |
| Beatrix | Four weapons, one for each situation | Dodge roll | Hard |
| Lesley | Sniper ultimate, crit damage | Camouflage | Medium |
| Ixia | Area beams | Little | Medium |
Season 42: patch 2.2.16 nerfed Miya, Hanabi, Melissa and Yi Sun-shin and reworked Bruno’s kit and ultimate. From the same patch, the target option “Lowest HP” became “Lowest Effective HP”, except for Karina, Karrie, Lesley and Thamuz, whose true damage ignores defence. Newer marksmen such as Obsidia and Natan round out the pool.
Early game
Farming and the gold lane
Gold lane is the marksman’s home. Last-hit every minion you can, and avoid trading damage unless you are clearly ahead. Your roamer comes to help in the first minutes; your jungler often shares the last hit on the red or purple buff with you to speed up your first item.
- Push your wave and take the turret plating early only when the enemy is absent. A turret down early opens the enemy jungle.
- Farm the side jungle camps near your lane when the wave is pushing towards you and your jungler is elsewhere.
- Leave lane only for objectives: the Turtle and Lord fights need your damage.
More on the lane itself in the Gold lane guide.
Mid and late game
Team fight positioning
- Arrive last. Let the tank and fighter take the first skills.
- Stand at your max range from the closest enemy, not from the enemy marksman.
- Hit the closest target. If that is the tank, hit the tank: the fight is decided by your damage output over time.
- Move between attacks. Most marksmen can cancel the end of an attack animation; small steps keep you out of skill shots.
- Save your escape for the assassin, not for a poke skill from the mage.
Items, Season 42
Marksman builds: crit, attack speed, burst
| Path | Core items | For |
|---|---|---|
| Critical | Windtalker, Berserker’s Fury, Blade of Despair | Bruno, Layla, Lesley, Granger |
| Attack speed / on-hit | Corrosion Scythe, Demon Hunter Sword, Golden Staff | Miya, Claude, Karrie, Moskov |
| Burst | Hunter Strike, Blade of Despair, Malefic Gun | Brody, Granger |
| Against tanky drafts | Malefic Roar or Malefic Gun | Everyone, late |
| Survival | Wind of Nature (against physical burst), Immortality | Everyone, late |
| Anti-heal | Sea Halberd | When the enemy heals |
Boots: Swift Boots for attack-speed marksmen; Tough or Warrior Boots when the enemy has heavy crowd control or physical burst. The Marksman emblem adds attack speed, attack and penetration; Weakness Finder (a chance to slow and reduce defence on basic attacks) suits attack-speed builds, and Quantum Charge (speed and healing after basic attacks) helps immobile marksmen. Since patch 2.2.16, enhanced basic attacks from emblems, battle spells and equipment no longer hit turrets, and Quantum Charge cannot trigger from turrets. Spells: Flicker by default; Inspire for attack-speed marksmen; Purify against stun-heavy teams.
The marksman’s main problem
Surviving the enemy assassin
In nearly every match, the enemy jungler’s first goal is the marksman. That is not a reason to play scared; it is a reason to play informed. The marksman who knows where the enemy jungler is can farm aggressively; the one who does not dies on cooldown.
- Track the enemy jungler’s first camp. If they started on the far side of the map, you have the first minute to push.
- Stay close to your roamer around level 4. That is when ganks with ultimates start.
- Buy defence earlier against a fed assassin. Wind of Nature blocks physical damage for a short time; one defensive item in the mid game is often worth more than a fourth damage item.
- Take Purify or Flicker based on the threat: Purify against lock-on crowd control, Flicker against dives.
- Fight near your team. In the late game, never farm a side lane alone when the enemy assassin is missing.
Ending games
Taking turrets efficiently
Marksmen are the role best at destroying turrets, and turrets are what win matches. A turret only ignores you while minions are in its range, so arrive with a wave. Take turrets right after won fights, when the enemy cannot defend, and during the Lord’s push.
| Situation | Do |
|---|---|
| Enemy team visible on the other side of the map | Push your lane and take the turret |
| Your team just won a fight | Group and take the nearest turret before going for kills |
| Lord is pushing for you | Follow behind the Lord and hit the turret it is attacking |
| Enemies missing | Do not dive; push only to the outer edge of the turret range |
In the 2026 Golden Turret battlefield variant, every turret you take shares much more gold with the team, which makes this habit even more valuable. See the macro guide.
Getting better
Practice plan for marksmen
- Play Classic with one marksman and count your last hits at four and eight minutes.
- Practise attack-move timing in a custom match: hit, step, hit.
- Review your deaths and mark which ones happened when the enemy jungler was not on your minimap.
- Learn when your build completes its core items and plan your fights around those spikes.
Answers
Mobile Legends marksman guide: FAQ
What is the best marksman for beginners?
Layla and Miya, then Bruno. They teach farming and positioning without complex combos.
Should a marksman buy defensive items?
Late in the game, yes: Wind of Nature or Immortality as the fifth or sixth item, earlier against an enemy with a strong assassin.
What does the “Lowest Effective HP” change do?
Since patch 2.2.16, auto-targeting picks the enemy who would die fastest after accounting for penetration and defence, rather than the one with the lowest health number.
Which battle spell is best for marksmen?
Flicker in most games, Inspire for attack-speed builds, Purify against heavy crowd control.
