Mobile Legends Gold lane guide
The Gold laner is the team’s bank account: every minion and every safe minute turns into the items that win the late game. Your best play in most matches is the boring one: farm, stay alive, hit turrets.
Updated 30 October 2026 for Season 42, patch 2.2.16a (October 2026).
The job
What the Gold lane is for
The lane is named for the gold bonus its solo laner receives. That makes it the lane for heroes who need items more than levels: marksmen, plus a few mages and fighters who scale with gold, such as Harith. The Gold laner usually becomes the team’s main damage source around the 10-minute mark.
Hero pool
Gold lane heroes for Season 42
| Style | Heroes | When to pick |
|---|---|---|
| Safe and simple | Layla, Miya, Bruno | Learning, or a team with strong protection |
| Lane bully | Brody, Granger | To win the lane and snowball early |
| Tank killer | Karrie, Claude, Moskov | Against tanky drafts with several frontliners |
| Mobile | Wanwan, Beatrix, Lesley | When you trust your mechanics |
| Non-marksman | Harith | Magic damage from Gold lane; draft flexibility |
Season 42: patch 2.2.16 nerfed Miya, Hanabi, Melissa and Yi Sun-shin, and reworked Bruno. The Gold lane meta shifts quickly with item and hero changes, so check the patch notes and the marksman guide for builds.
Gold is the game
Farming targets
- Every minion counts. Count your last hits in practice matches and aim to miss as few as possible in the first five minutes.
- Your roamer helps, but does not farm. The roamer’s blessing shares gold with the lowest-earning ally; do not fight your own roamer for minions.
- Take side camps when safe. Small jungle camps near the Gold lane are extra income when your wave is coming towards you.
- Do not back with gold you cannot spend. Plan your trips: back when you can buy a full component, not a little bit of everything.
| By | Aim for |
|---|---|
| 4:00 | Boots and your first component, no deaths |
| 8:00 | First full core item; ideally the enemy outer turret |
| 12:00 | Two or three core items, grouped with the team for the Lord |
These targets are guidelines, not game numbers; what matters is that you are not behind the enemy Gold laner.
Minutes 0 to 6
Surviving the early game
- Stand behind your wave. Enemy minions hit the closest target.
- Respect level 4. The enemy jungler and roamer gain their ultimates around the same time and will look for you first.
- Ward the river bush with your body or your roamer. The most common Gold lane death is a gank from the river.
- Back when the enemy jungler is missing and you have a reason to (low HP, an item ready).
- Do not chase. A marksman chasing a kill into fog is how the enemy assassin gets a free first blood.
Mid game
Turret pressure and objectives
Marksmen destroy turrets faster than any other role. After every won fight, push the nearest lane with your team. In the Golden Turret battlefield variant of the 2026 annual map change, turrets share much more gold with the whole team, so this habit pays even more. Since patch 2.2.16, enhanced basic attacks that come from emblems, spells or items no longer damage turrets; only your hero’s own enhanced attacks do.
For objectives, the Gold laner provides the damage on the Turtle and the Lord. Stand at the far side of the pit from where the enemy will come, and leave the last hit to your jungler’s Retribution.
Late game
Team fights: position, target, survive
- Arrive last and stand at maximum range from the nearest enemy.
- Hit the closest target, even if it is the tank.
- Keep your escape for the assassin.
- Buy a defensive item (Wind of Nature, Immortality) once the enemy has a fed assassin.
Duo lane
Playing with your roamer
In the first minutes, the Gold laner and the roamer play together. The marksman farms, the roamer protects and looks for picks. Good duos agree on when to fight: usually when the roamer’s crowd control is ready and the enemy marksman has walked forward for a minion.
- Follow your roamer’s engage. If a tank lands a stun on the enemy marksman, hit that target immediately.
- Do not fight without them. A marksman alone against two enemies loses the trade.
- Let them leave. After the first minutes, the roamer goes to the Turtle and mid; farm safely while they are away.
- Ping when the enemy roamer is missing. It usually means a gank is coming in mid or towards you.
Avoid these
Gold lane mistakes
- Chasing kills into fog.
- Taking the Turtle alone because “it is free”.
- Buying a full damage build against a fed assassin.
- Backing to base with an awkward amount of gold.
- Standing in front of the tank in team fights.
- Hitting the enemy tank first when a softer target is equally close.
Sharing the map
Gold laners and the jungler
The Gold laner and the jungler share resources more than any other pair. The jungler often starts on the buff near the Gold lane, and the marksman helps with the first hits, which speeds up the jungler’s clear. Later, the jungler may let the marksman take a buff, especially the red buff for the slow and bonus damage, when the marksman is the team’s main carry.
- Help your jungler with the first buff; leave the last hit to their Retribution.
- Do not take the jungler’s small camps unless they say so; their level matters for the first Turtle.
- Ask for the red buff later in the game when you are the main damage dealer.
- When your jungler ganks your lane, follow up immediately on the target they hit.
A good jungler-marksman relationship is the backbone of most late-game wins. If your jungler is also a carry, such as an assassin who snowballs early, play safer and let them take the risks.
After minute 12
The late-game carry
From the late game on, the Gold laner is usually the hero the enemy most wants to kill and the hero your team most needs alive. Stay grouped, arrive at fights last, and take turrets right after each won fight. If the enemy evolves the Lord, stand back from the pit and hit the enemies who come to contest it rather than the Lord itself.
Answers
Mobile Legends Gold lane guide: FAQ
Who is the best Gold laner?
For beginners, Layla, Miya and Bruno. For lane pressure, Brody and Granger; against tanks, Karrie and Claude.
Should the Gold laner help with the Turtle?
Yes, when the lane is safe. The Turtle needs damage and the marksman provides it, while the jungler takes the last hit.
Can a mage play Gold lane?
Some can. Harith is the usual example, and occasionally drafts use other gold-hungry heroes there.
How do I stop dying to ganks?
Stand behind your wave, watch the minimap for the enemy jungler and stay out of the river bush unless your roamer has checked it.
