Mobile Legends fighter guide

Fighters are the most varied role in Mobile Legends: some are sustained bruisers that win long fights, some are burst divers that delete a carry, and a few are almost tanks. What they share is melee range and the need to pick the right fight.

Updated 30 October 2026 for Season 42, patch 2.2.16a (October 2026).

Heroes in this guide

Know which you are playing

Three kinds of fighter

Fighter sub-types
TypePlays likeExamples
BruiserDurable, high sustain, wins long fightsYu Zhong, Thamuz, Esmeralda, Alucard, X.Borg
Burst fighterDives in, kills one target, gets outPaquito, Chou, Dyrroth, Arlott
Tank-fighterAlmost a tank, crowd control plus some damageFredrinn, Gatotkaca, Ruby

A bruiser wants long, messy fights with many targets; a burst fighter wants a short fight against one squishy enemy; a tank-fighter starts fights for the team. Drafting matters: if your team has no tank, a tank-fighter in EXP lane keeps the team safe. If your team has a tank and a mage, a burst fighter adds kill pressure.

Patch notes, Season 42: patch 2.2.16 (16 September 2026) buffed Aulus, Argus, Aldous, Lukas and Alpha among fighters, nerfed Paquito, and reworked Masha into a sustained-combat berserker. The hotfix 2.2.16a (14 October 2026) took some of Aulus’ buff back. Check the in-game patch notes before you invest in a hero for the season.

EXP lane

Laning: trades, waves and level 4

Most fighters play EXP lane, alone against another fighter or a tank. Winning that lane is about trading: hitting the enemy when they cannot hit back.

  • Trade when the enemy last-hits. An enemy who walks forward for a minion is in range and distracted.
  • Know your power spikes. Most fighters are much stronger at level 4 with the ultimate, and again after their first full damage item.
  • Fight with your minion wave, not against it. Minions deal real damage at level 1 to 5. If your wave is larger, you win the trade.
  • Do not chase to the enemy turret. Fighters have melee range; the turret will kill you before your target dies.

Mid game

Team fights: where a fighter stands

In a team fight the fighter usually goes in second, right after the tank’s crowd control. The common error is going in first, absorbing the whole enemy team’s skills and dying before anyone else joins. A good fighter waits for the tank to land the engage, then dives past the frontline towards the enemy damage dealers.

  1. Wait at the edge of the fight while the tank engages.
  2. Watch for key enemy skills: a stun on your carry or a cleanse spell being used.
  3. Dive the enemy marksman or mage with your gap-closer.
  4. If the carry is protected, hit the nearest enemy instead and stay alive; a living fighter keeps pressure on.

After minute 12

Split-pushing in the late game

Fighters are the best split-pushers in the game: they clear waves fast, survive under turrets and can escape. Split-pushing means taking a side lane alone while your team holds the middle or an objective, forcing the enemy to send someone to stop you.

  • Split only when the rest of your team can avoid a fight while you push.
  • Push when the Lord is alive on your side of the map, or right after you take it.
  • Leave the side lane when two or more enemies disappear from the minimap.
  • Never split-push while your team is fighting at the Lord: that fight decides the game.

Fighter items and emblems

The Fighter emblem gives hybrid lifesteal, adaptive attack and defence. Brave Smite (healing when you deal skill damage) is the usual core talent for bruisers. Burst fighters sometimes take the Assassin emblem for penetration. Spells: Flicker on burst fighters and EXP laners; Vengeance or Petrify for bruisers who stand in the middle of a team fight. See emblems and battle spells.

Common lane matchups

Fighter matchups in EXP lane come down to three things: who has the better early trade, who heals more over a long fight, and who has a reliable escape. The table below gives general rules rather than exact numbers, which change every patch.

Fighter matchup rules of thumb
You playAgainstHow to play it
Sustain bruiserBurst fighterAbsorb the first combo, then fight back while their skills are on cooldown
Burst fighterSustain bruiserShort trades only; take the kill window at level 4 or with your jungler
Any fighterRanged EXP lanerApproach from bushes, never down the lane; buy movement or a gap-closer item
Any fighterTank in EXP laneFarm and push; a tank cannot kill you, so outscale it and take the turret
Any fighterEsmeraldaAvoid shield-heavy builds; she turns your shields into hers
Any fighterHeavy healingBuy Sea Halberd early and trade when their healing skill is on cooldown

Before the match, read the enemy laner’s skills on the loading screen if you do not know the hero. Knowing which skill is their escape tells you when to commit.

Getting better

How to practise a fighter

  1. Play ten matches of one fighter in Classic, focusing only on last hits and trading in lane.
  2. Watch a replay of each death and note whether you engaged first, chased too far or fought without your wave.
  3. Learn the cooldown of your gap-closer; most fighter deaths come from using it to engage and having nothing left to escape.
  4. Practise the split-push decision: after 12 minutes, every time you push a side lane, count how many enemies are missing before you go deeper.

Answers

Mobile Legends fighter guide: FAQ

What is the best fighter in Mobile Legends right now?

As of Season 42, heroes buffed in patch 2.2.16 such as Lukas and Aldous saw more play, while Paquito was nerfed. For learning, Chou and Yu Zhong remain dependable picks across patches.

Should a fighter build defensive items?

Yes, usually two or three. Fighters are in melee range and need to survive long enough to deal damage. War Axe and Queen’s Wings give both.

Can fighters jungle?

Some fighters jungle well, especially bruisers with fast clears. Most still play EXP lane.

What emblem do fighters use?

The Fighter emblem for bruisers and tank-fighters; the Assassin emblem for burst fighters who want penetration.
