Mobile Legends mid lane guide
The mid laner is the closest hero to every part of the map. A mid laner who clears the wave fast and rotates on time gives every other lane a two-against-one.
Updated 30 October 2026 for Season 42, patch 2.2.16a (October 2026).
Centre of the map
The job of the mid laner
Mid lane is short and central. Its waves reach the turret quickly, and the laner can reach either side lane, either jungle and both river objectives in a few seconds. Most mid laners are mages because area skills clear waves fast and long-range crowd control sets up kills for the side lanes.
- Clear the wave. Fast, and before you do anything else.
- Rotate. Help a side lane, the jungler at a buff or the roamer at the Turtle.
- Control the river. Your presence decides who takes the Lithowanderer and contests the first objectives.
- Provide magic damage and crowd control in team fights.
Hero pool
Mid laners for Season 42
| Style | Heroes |
|---|---|
| Fast wave clear and poke | Pharsa, Xavier, Novaria, Yve |
| Control | Vale, Luo Yi, Valentina, Kagura |
| Burst | Eudora, Aurora, Kadita |
| Sustained | Lunox, Cecilion, Valir |
Kagura was buffed in patch 2.2.16; Eudora was nerfed in the 2.2.16a hotfix (October 2026); Odette and Kadita were adjusted. More picks and builds in the mage guide.
The core skill
Rotations, step by step
- Clear the wave with your skills. Do not leave half a wave; your turret takes damage while you are gone.
- Check the minimap. Which side lane is pushed forward? Where is the enemy jungler?
- Pick the target. A side lane where the enemy is pushed and your ally has crowd control.
- Walk through the river or jungle, not down the lane, so the enemy does not see you coming.
- Return before the next wave reaches your turret. A mid laner who never returns loses the mid turret.
Mid game
The river and objectives
The river runs across the map between the two jungles. It holds the Lithowanderer, a river creature that gives the team that takes it a small reward, and the objective pits for the Turtle (first spawn 2:00) and the Lord (8:00), timings as of Season 42. The mid laner is usually the second hero to arrive at either pit, and the first to see the enemy coming.
- Clear your wave about 20 seconds before an objective spawns so you can be there on time.
- Stand at the edge of the pit facing the enemy jungle, ready to zone with your crowd control.
- Do not use your key crowd control on the objective; save it for enemies who try to contest.
The 2026 annual map change adds Revealing Wisps in some matches: pick-ups that circle your hero and reveal hidden enemies nearby. On those maps the mid laner can grab them on the way to a fight. Full timings in the objectives guide.
Avoid these
Common mid lane mistakes
- Staying mid all game, farming while side lanes lose turrets.
- Using all skills on the wave and having none when the enemy jungler appears.
- Walking into the enemy jungle alone to steal camps.
- Rotating with the mid wave still alive.
- Standing in front of your tank in team fights.
Build
Mid lane emblems, spells and items
The Mage emblem with Impure Rage or Lethal Ignition is standard. Flicker is the default spell; Flameshot suits long-range mages, and Purify protects against stun-heavy teams. Items depend on the hero: Genius Wand, Enchanted Talisman, Glowing Wand against healers, Holy Crystal for burst, Divine Glaive later against magic defence. See emblems and battle spells.
Laning
Winning the mid lane itself
The mid lane matchup is mostly about wave clear and poke. The mid laner who clears faster can leave first and rotate; the one who is pinned under their turret loses map influence even without dying. Use your area skill on the wave and your poke on the enemy mid laner when they step up to last-hit.
| Your mage | Against | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Long-range poke | Short-range burst mage | Poke them from outside their range and push them under turret |
| Burst mage | Long-range poke | Stay healthy, wait in the bush, burst them when they walk forward |
| Control mage | Assassin or fighter mid | Keep your crowd control for their dive |
| Any mage | Roaming enemy mid | Push the wave and ping; either follow or take their turret |
- Use the bushes beside mid lane to hide from skill shots and to hide your rotation.
- Save one skill. A mage with every skill on cooldown after clearing the wave is a free kill for the enemy jungler.
- Back at the right time. Shortly before an objective spawns, a quick reset lets you arrive with full mana.
Mid and late game
Mid laner in team fights
In the late game, the mid laner is the team’s main source of magic damage and often its most important crowd control after the tank. Stand behind the frontline and to the side, not directly behind your tank. Use crowd control on the enemy diver first, then damage on whoever is in range. If you are the team’s only magic damage, survive; dying early makes it easy for the enemy to build physical defence against everyone else.
- Before the fight, check where the enemy assassin is.
- Wait for your tank’s engage or the enemy’s dive.
- Land your crowd control on the most dangerous enemy in range.
- Follow with damage, staying at maximum range.
- Keep an escape for the second wave of enemies.
Draft
Choosing a mid laner for your draft
Pick your mid laner after you know what your team lacks. If the team has no crowd control, pick a control mage such as Vale, Yve or Luo Yi. If the team needs early pressure, pick a burst mage such as Eudora or Kadita. If the enemy has several tanks, a sustained mage such as Cecilion or Lunox keeps up damage in long fights. Counter-pick last when you can, because the mid matchup is easier to see from the enemy draft than to guess. See the draft guide.
Getting better
Practice plan for mid laners
- Count the seconds it takes your mage to clear a full wave; practise until it is consistent.
- In every Classic match, plan one rotation before the first Turtle and one after.
- Review a replay and mark each moment you stood in the mid lane with no wave to clear: those are rotations you missed.
- Learn the cooldown of your main crowd-control skill; never use it on a wave when the enemy jungler is missing.
