Best Mobile Legends heroes for beginners
A good first hero is not the strongest one in the patch: it is the hero whose mistakes are cheap, whose skills are readable and who teaches something you will need later.
Updated 30 October 2026 for Season 42, patch 2.2.16a (October 2026).
Criteria
How we picked them
This list does not follow the current tier list. Strong heroes rotate every patch; easy heroes stay easy. Each hero here meets at least three of four criteria:
- Simple skills. Few or no skill shots that have to be aimed precisely, few combos.
- Forgiving. High health, a reliable escape or a long range that lets you survive a bad position.
- Teaches a fundamental. Last-hitting, positioning, timing an ultimate, protecting a carry.
- Cheap or free. Most of these heroes are among the first you receive or among the cheapest in battle points.
Strength still matters a little. A hero that is weak in the current patch makes learning frustrating, so the list leans on heroes that have stayed playable for years. As of Season 42 (patch 2.2.16, October 2026) every hero below is in a playable state; none has been removed from ranked.
Roam
Tanks
| Hero | Why it is easy | What it teaches | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tigreal | Very durable; the ultimate pulls everyone nearby into one spot | When to start a fight | Atlas or Khufra |
| Franco | One key skill, the hook, and a lock-down ultimate | Aiming skill shots, picking off a target | Johnson |
| Hylos | Huge health pool; skills scale with it | Staying in front, peeling for allies | Belerick |
Tanks are the best place to learn the map. You are not judged on kills, and you can watch how the game flows while staying alive. Tigreal especially teaches the most important tank habit: wait for the enemies to group, then use the ultimate, and only when your damage dealers are close enough to follow up.
EXP lane
Fighters
| Hero | Why it is easy | What it teaches | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Balmond | Spinning area damage, strong healing from kills on minions | Clearing waves, trading in lane | Thamuz or Dyrroth |
| Alucard | Life-steal keeps him alive, simple dash and spin | When to commit and when to leave | Yu Zhong |
| Freya | A shield and jumps that do not require aiming | Timing an all-in | Paquito or Chou |
Fighters suffer most from being kited by ranged heroes. Practise walking up through bushes rather than straight down the lane, and save your gap-closer for the moment the enemy has used theirs. The fighter guide covers builds and matchups.
Jungle
Assassins
| Hero | Why it is easy | What it teaches | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saber | Point-and-click ultimate that locks on to one target | Choosing the right target | Gusion |
| Karina | Resets on kills, true-damage bursts, a dodge | Clean-up in team fights | Lancelot |
| Natalia | Invisible in bushes; very simple combo | Ambushes and patience | Helcurt or Aamon |
Jungle is the hardest position for beginners because it combines farming routes, objective timing and ganks. If you want to jungle anyway, start with Saber or Karina, follow the jungle routes guide and play your first jungle games in Classic. Avoid Fanny and Ling until you have hundreds of matches: both are rewarding and both lose games in the hands of a learner.
Mid lane
Mages
| Hero | Why it is easy | What it teaches | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eudora | Targeted stun, huge single-target burst | Burst timing, staying out of reach | Kagura |
| Nana | Passive that saves her from death, a transforming ultimate | Wave clear and crowd control | Vale or Pharsa |
| Aurora | Freeze and area damage, simple layout | Positioning behind the tank | Yve or Valentina |
Mages teach mana management and the most important mid-lane habit: clear the wave, then leave the lane to help. A mage who stays in the middle all game wastes their main advantage. See the mage guide and the mid lane guide.
Gold lane
Marksmen
| Hero | Why it is easy | What it teaches | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Layla | Very long range that grows with skill level | Positioning at max range | Lesley |
| Miya | Attack-speed passive, an escape in the ultimate | Kiting and focusing turrets | Karrie or Wanwan |
| Bruno | Simple skill shot and strong critical damage | Item spikes and late-game carry play | Granger |
Marksmen are the best teachers of farming. Count your last hits in practice: a marksman who stays on schedule with farm and does not die is worth more to the team than one who joins every fight early. Layla and Miya have no reliable dash, so they also teach positioning the hard way. Note that Miya was adjusted downward in patch 2.2.16 (September 2026), which makes her a touch weaker but no harder to learn.
Roam
Supports
| Hero | Why it is easy | What it teaches | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rafaela | Heals, speed boost, a stun in a line | Following the team and peeling | Diggie |
| Estes | Links to an ally and heals them constantly | Protecting the carry | Floryn |
| Angela | Her ultimate attaches her to an ally anywhere on the map | Map awareness and timing saves | Kaja or Mathilda |
Pure supports are strong in solo queue at lower ranks because they keep a careless team alive. Their weakness is low damage: if your team has no one who can kill, a healer does not save the match. Learn one tank and one support, so you can roam either way. The support guide explains the roaming blessings.
How to use this list
A 30-match learning plan
- Matches 1 to 10: pick one hero from this list for the position you want and only play that hero, in Classic.
- Matches 11 to 20: add a second hero of the same role from the list. Two heroes protect you when one is banned or taken.
- Matches 21 to 30: add one hero for a second position. Roam and Gold lane combine well, because they lane together early.
- Then: move to ranked, and only add the “next step” heroes when you are winning more than you lose with the easy ones.
Not yet
Popular heroes to leave for later
Some of the most popular heroes in Mobile Legends are terrible first picks. They are popular because they look spectacular in skilled hands and in highlight videos, and that is exactly why they punish learners: their power is locked behind combos, precise aim or map knowledge that a new player does not have yet.
| Hero | Why it is hard | Learn first |
|---|---|---|
| Fanny | Steel cables between walls, energy management, very low margin for error | Saber, then Lancelot |
| Ling | Wall-walking movement and a jungle-only playstyle | Karina, then Hayabusa |
| Lancelot | Dash chains and invulnerable frames that must be timed | Saber |
| Gusion | Dagger recall combos for burst | Eudora for burst timing |
| Chou | Kick aim and a skill that must be cancelled correctly | Freya or Balmond |
| Kagura | Umbrella placement combos | Aurora |
| Chip | Portals that only work with good map reading | Angela |
| Wanwan | Needs to hit weak points from different angles before her ultimate | Miya |
None of these heroes are bad. They simply teach the wrong lessons when you do not yet know why you died. Once you can explain each of your deaths in a replay, you are ready for them.
Playing with a friend
Heroes that pair well in duo queue
If you play with one friend, pick heroes that cover each other’s weaknesses. The classic beginner duo is a Gold lane marksman with a roamer, because they share the early lane and learn to fight together.
| Duo | Why it works |
|---|---|
| Layla + Tigreal | Tigreal groups enemies; Layla hits them from max range |
| Miya + Estes | Estes links to Miya and keeps her alive through every fight |
| Eudora + Franco | Franco hooks a target; Eudora deletes it |
| Balmond + Rafaela | Rafaela speeds Balmond into fights and heals him out |
Answers
Best Mobile Legends heroes for beginners: FAQ
What is the easiest hero in Mobile Legends?
Layla and Miya for marksmen, Tigreal for tanks, Balmond for fighters and Eudora for mages are the usual answers. All four have simple skills and are among the first heroes new accounts get.
Should a beginner play the strongest heroes in the tier list?
Not at first. Tier lists assume the hero is played well, and many top heroes have difficult kits. An easy hero that you play correctly wins more than a meta hero you are still learning.
Which role should a beginner start with?
Roam or Gold lane. Tanks and supports teach the map with little risk, and marksmen teach farming and positioning.
When should I learn harder heroes?
After you are comfortable with two heroes of one role and one of another, and you win more than you lose with them. Use the “next step” column above for a smooth path.
